This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides technical support. Responsibilities may include computer programming or operations; research support; medical patient care; technical equipment maintenance, repair, fabrication or operation; or other technical support functions.
Unit Position Summary
The Lowry and Walker Labs at Michigan State University are currently looking for two field technicians to conduct research on the plant physiology and genetics of the bioenergy crop switchgrass. The successful applicants will work with a team of other technicians, graduate students, and postdocs. The starting wage will be $20 per hour. One of the technicians will be located at the Kellogg Biological Station in western Michigan, while the other technician could be located either at the MSU campus in East Lansing, MI or at the Kellogg Biological Station. These positions are available now and will continue through November 30th with potential for extension based on performance and availability of funding.
Desired Qualifications
Previous experience with ecological, physiological, and/or evolutionary field research and previous experience working with plants and a Valid Driver’s License

Summary of Health Risks
We utilize herbicide once per season, but the technician would not be allowed to handle to herbicide or be near the field site before re-entry. The technician will receive WPS training.

Physically demanding work requiring lifting 50 pounds or more with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing 25 pounds or more
