Job Description
The Energy Resources Document Lifecycle Management (DLM) Lead is responsible for managing a team of professional Technical Communicators, Process and Business Document analysts and DLM Tool/SharePoint Specialists. The DLM Lead's core responsibility is to ensure conditions are favorable for the team members to complete work. To do this, the DLM Lead develops and maintains the DLM Methodology Standard and Tools, while removing possible and actual roadblocks to work progress.
The DLM Lead works to grow and prioritize the work for the department and align other areas of Consumers Energy with the DLM Standard. Championing the DLM Process and assessing conformation to the process, the DLM Lead helps to ensure documentation requests are delivered on time, with high quality, and keep the needs of the end users in mind.
The DLM Lead is the main intake point for new Document Requests. Using SharePoint tools and reporting, the DLM Lead reviews requests and assigns new work based on workload balancing and Business Priorities.
The DLM Lead is responsible for developing DLM Team Goals and reviewing and reporting progress.
To manage a team of professional technical communicators and support personnel, it is important that the DLM Lead has worked as a Technical Communicator and understands the development/review/approval process along with the controls and tools needed for successfully meeting documentation goals. Technical Communication work has aspects of being able to both lead/work with a large team of SMEs and, conversely, to work alone on tasks such as authoring content. Understanding the dual nature of the Technical Communicator and helping to support the people doing the work with both structure and flexibility is a very important attribute needed in the DLM Lead.
Responsibilities:
•Develop and maintain DLM Methodology and Documentation
•Champion the DLM Methodology within Consumers Energy
•Assign requests to team members; ensure workload balancing across team
•Develop and maintain team goals and report up
•Develop and maintain team visual management
•Lead weekly DLM Team Meetings
•Lead bi-weekly Technical Communicator one-on-ones
•Attend ERBS C&QS WOR
•Consolidate weekly resumes from team members
•Maintain templates and SharePoint site strategy
•Identify need for and hire contractors
Attributes required:
Strategic thinking/working with all levels/types of personnel (from contractor to new grade through senior personnel, management, and officers)
Able to trust team members to do their work, but check in regularly and remove roadblocks
Be confident in the DLM Process and push alignment with areas doing similar work
Be familiar with Lean Principles and Quality Concepts and how the DLM Methodology supports the CE Way
Able to juggle multiple tasks and understand/keep up with a widely varying range of documentation of all team members
Ability to look at and discuss issues at all levels, from high level strategy to detailed work, such as grammatical editing
Ability to present the correct level of information for the audience, both written and in person
Advocate for the end user, assuring that the DLM team understands the product they produce is built for the end user and they should always advocate for their needs
Requirements
•Bachelor's Degree in Technical Communication, Professional Writing, or related field
•8+ years of experience with Technical Communication/Writing and/or managing a team of Technical Communicators

•Experience working in the Electric/Gas Utility Industry
•Experience with Regulatory areas such as NERC, OSHA, etc.
•Experience with Quality Systems (ISO, etc.)
•Experience with Lean Concepts
•Expert at MS Word
•Advanced Acrobat Pro
•Working knowledge of MS Visio and Excel
•Advanced knowledge of SharePoint
•Superior time management skills
•Project planning experience, including a thorough understanding of how to establish realistic timelines for milestones and amount of effort needed to meet those milestones
