Description:
The Little Eagles Child Care program is a tuition-based child care program for the Ferndale Public Schools community and staff and serves students ages 2.5 to 5 years old. The program is an out-growth of the recently adopted Strategic Plan initiative designed to provide high quality care for children, support enrollment retention into Ferndale Public Schools, and provide developmentally appropriate practices for children to become successful students in the future. The program is designed around high quality care practices as identified by NAEYC and operates under the Reggio Emilia philosophy.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- 1.) CDA (Child Development Associate) or Associates’ degree or higher in early childhood or child development or 2.) High School Diploma and experience working with infant, toddlers or preschool aged children as required under the requirements of the State of Michigan, Department of Human Services, Bureau of Children and Adult Licensing.
- Current certification in child and adult CPR and First Aid preferred
- Be of sufficient physical, mental, and emotional health to satisfactorily perform job duties
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Experience working with toddlers and preschoolers, ages 2 through 5
- Good organizational and record keeping skills
- Able to work well with school staff, parents, and students
- Possess skills, attributes and characteristics conducive to and suitable for dealing with children.
- Able to maintain a safe environment for children as required by Michigan Child Care Licensing Regulations and MDE Early Childhood Quality Standards
- Knowledge and understanding of the NAYEC best practices.
- Knowledge and understanding of early childhood program philosophies such as High Scope, Creative Curriculum and Reggio.
- Know and understand the importance of attachments and relationship for young children
- Such alternatives and exceptions to the above requirements as deemed appropriate for the position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with lead caregiver in planning and implementing activities aligned to the programs philosophy
- Implement activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of the children in the program
- Serve snacks and lunches
- Provide children with age appropriate equipment and activities
- Ensure equipment and the facility are clean, well maintained and safe at all times
- Support and develop appropriate activities as planned
- Support activities that strengthen and build small and gross motor skills and abilities
- Follow policies and procedures including in accordance to behavior policy
- Be familiar with emergency procedures
- Effectively communicate with Lead Caregiver and Supervisor
