Full-time, Pay grade 5 (Starting Salary $41,328 to $45,820: Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience)
Position Accountabilities and Essential Functions:
The Coordinator of Veteran Services Provides daily support to veteran student population via Enrollment Certification with Dept. of Veteran Affairs, advocate for veteran student and dependents for fair and timely disbursement of eligible benefits, provide course advisement, transfer and career advisement, conduct out reach for purposes of recruitment and VA benefit awareness and utilization. Collaborate with Student Finance for the correct billing, receipt and account application of funds received by the college for various veteran chapters as defined by the Dept. of Veteran Affairs. Collaborate with Marketing & Public Relations, Enrollment Services and other college resources in the promotion of academic and non-academic programs, resources (internal and external) and veteran benefits as applied to educational endeavors. The Coordinator would have accountabilities in ensuring the timely and correct certification of enrollments, ensure all Delta procedures are aligned with Dept. of Veteran Affairs policies to ensure a successful transition for the veteran student. This position would also serve as the staff advisor for all affiliated veteran student clubs and organizations. Coordinator would also hire, train and supervise Veteran Services staff consisting of: one permanent part-time support staff and 1-3 student workers (hired via VA benefits). Coordinator would be the lead in providing training and awareness to college community on veteran issues. Coordinator would be the lead representative with the Michigan Veteran Educators Consortium, the Dept. of Veteran Affairs and Dept. of Defense for active duty service members attending Delta via the Memorandum of Understanding which governs the payment of tuition and fees for active duty personnel.
Required Qualifications:
- 2 – 5 years customer service – preferably in higher education
- 1 – 3 years supervision experience
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
Additional Experiences Considered:
- Knowledge of Department of Veteran Affairs benefits for military service members and dependents.
- Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
- Knowledge of Solomon Act (compliance with requests for student information for military recruitment purposes)
