* Senior Associate Scientist Assay Design and Protein Therapeutics Group - Histology
The Assay Design and Protein Therapeutics group is seeking a talented and experienced histology technician to contribute to our efforts in Global Therapeutics Research at Zoetis. The ADaPT group partners with therapeutic areas and project teams to design and engineer novel substrate and build robust testing funnels for a variety of therapeutic approaches that improve diseases or conditions in companion animals as well as livestock species.
The successful candidate should have at least 3 years of relevant experience in tissue preparation and analysis from a variety of sources. A successful candidate should have extensive experience in developing and troubleshooting tissue-based assays including IHC and ISH. Knowledge of antibodies and/or protein interactions and the underlying specificity of these interactions are essential. Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Preparation of tissue samples by FFPE, cryopreservation, or other related techniques.
* General histology methods including sectioning using a microtome and cryostat, slide preparation, and experience performing a variety of staining techniques.
* Design, troubleshooting and implementation of IHC methods using manual and automated techniques.
* Design, troubleshooting, and implementation of ISH methods to detect low and high abundance transcripts from a variety of tissue/cell types.
* Protein purification and characterization including SDS-PAGE protein gels, Westerns, and ELISAs.
* Knowledge of image-capture instrumentation, image analysis software, and archival databases.
* Solid experience with bright field, fluorescent, and confocal microscopy.
* Collaborate across multiple scientific disciplines
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
* Educational background: BS or MS (biology/histology, molecular or cellular biology, immunology, biochemistry, engineering, or related field).
* Experience in biological sciences focusing on histology, protein/nucleic acid detection and characterization from tissue and cellular sources.
* Experience with microscopy and image capture software and algorithms used to delineate cellular features and quantitate signals from various tissue-based assays and staining methods.
* Experience or training with mammalian cell and organotypic culture techniques.
* Experience in protein biochemistry, including SDS PAGE protein gels, Western gels, ELISA, and affinity chromatography, and protein quantification.
* Self-starter, able to prioritize work and work efficiently with minimal supervision and work across teams
* Excellent verbal/written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
* General computer skills required: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, or equivalent
