Department Summary
This position is within the Gas Customer Deliverability Team that is responsible for the reliability and deliverability of the gas distribution system to support a high level of service to the customer. Responsibility also includes the development and communication of project options for delivery requests from customers including new load, asset relocation and the resolution of customer issues/complaints. Will be interfacing directly with the larger gas customers, communicating system performance and modifications that may affect the customer. Customers range from commercial to municipalities.
In addition to customer related projects, the Gas Customer Deliverability Team is responsible for evaluation and selection of projects to improve the integrity of our distribution system.
Job Description/Responsibilities
The Gas System Engineer is the asset owner of the gas distribution system, responsible for both managing/supporting the system improvement process as well as engineering customer solutions. The Gas System Engineer will scope and support system improvement programs, including asset relocation, augment supply, enhanced infrastructure replacement, regulatory base, and other complex system modifications. Administers the input of information to the Decision Analysis Project Planning Database, and provides oversight for projects requiring immediate action. Works with MDOT, municipalities, cities, and townships to ensure their schedules and requirements are met. Provides technical
expertise to Operations in situations requiring the use of advanced techniques, theories, and engineering concepts. Serves as a contact in the assigned area for the MPSC safety engineers, and provides information to satisfy MPSC inquires related to gas records/incidents, including occasional on-call responsibilities. Reviews (and revises when necessary) technical and design criteria to assure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations. The Gas System Engineer will also be heavily involved in ensuring the service our customers receive is timely, efficient, and of the utmost quality. This will involve working closely with the Business Customer Care and Customer Energy
Management Teams and may include visits to some of our high-volume customers, as well as active involvement in providing/engineering customer solutions on projects when needs arise. The Gas System Engineer is the liaison to GAM within the local area. This position will have responsibility for the Livonia and Howell Service Areas which encompasses the gas distribution work in Wayne, Oakland, Washtenaw, and Livingston Counties.
Requirements/Qualifications
Education required:
A bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program is required
Work experience required:
Typically 3 to 10 years' experience in engineering or equivalent, and have demonstrated proven success managing multiple projects, objectives and deadlines.
Candidate must have an understanding of the gas order fulfillment process and have demonstrated skills including being highly motivated, dependable, reliable, a self-starter, a strong team player, and results oriented. Places a high priority on safety and public relations. Must possess excellent communication skills, including prudent judgment when communicating with customers and other outside contacts (politicians, government employees, regulators, etc). Must be customer-focused.
