Title: Applications EngineerID: req10108Type: Full Time Function: Product Engineering Division: PT - Systems Protection Location: Plymouth, MI, United States (44099 Plymouth Oaks Boulevard) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Understand current and future customer and OEM protection product requirements. Understand customer manufacturing processes and techniques in order to determine and understand how they can use FMSP products.
•Attend customer trials of new and existing SP protection products for the purposes of educating the customer on installation techniques, determining customer likes and dislikes of the product so that product improvements can be made.
•Work closely with the FMSP Product Engineering during all stages of product development. Ensure that customer expectations are relayed to Product Engineering and that the customer fully understands all aspects of the product.
•Make sure that key project personnel in Product Engineering are familiar with the specific applications associated with their project. Part of this may include taking them (in conjunction with the appropriate sales person) to see the application and/or customer.
•With the help and support of the sales representatives, seek new product applications with customers.
•Assist the Automotive Sales group in recommending products for customer applications. This involves acting as a technical resource for the Automotive Sales Group and assisting them on sales calls when appropriate.
•Submit requests to Product Management for new products after it has been determined that existing products will not satisfy the customer's requirements. These requests should include a summary of the expected market potential of the product.
•Assist Product Management in gathering information on market potentials, competitive products and technological trends.
•Ensure that the Sales Group, Product Management, Program Management/Product Engineering, Product Development, Quality and Manufacturing are fully aware and informed of potential new product releases and quality and testing requirements.
•Prepare customer specifications, internal specifications, and internal drawings of SP product.
•Initiate Product Management Requests (PMRs) as appropriate for testing and samples required by customers. Work with PMR Coordinator, Manufacturing and Product Engineering to ensure timely completion.
•Capable of providing support as requested by supervisor.
•Adheres and is compliant to the policies and procedures in regards to TS16949/AS9100 quality standards. Strives to continuously improve processes.
•Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including Federal-Mogul EHS policies, procedures, and practices.
•Adhere to the Zero Tolerance policy and practice of refusing to tolerate or allow behavior defined by Federal-Mogul as unacceptable in terms of safety (e.g. "unsafe behavior" meaning behavior that could lead to occupational injury or illness to a plant employee, contractor or visitor).
•Environmental Health & Safety Responsibilities and Accountability - Comply with Environmental Health & Safety Rules and Regulations. Must be able to understand what hazards are associated with his/her position and how to minimize them. All accidents/injuries no matter how slight must be reported to any member of management, and/or Environmental Health & Safety Manager as soon as possible.Will be required to wear required personal protective equipment. Will be responsible for the environment, health and safety of all employees under their direct supervision as well as reporting and taking immediate action per the Zero Tolerance.
•Each employee has the authority to initiate action to prevent a violation of the Federal-Mogul Integrity Policy.REQUIREMENTS:
* BS Engineering (preferably Mechanical)
* Preferably one(1) to three(3) years of experience in application engineering within the automotive industry, preferably in a working relationship with Automotive OEM or Tier 1&2 design engineers.
* Demonstrated ability to evaluate and solvecustomer problems.
* Outstanding inter-personal skills and a demonstrated ability to work with all levels, departments and operations of the company
* Excellent communication and technical writing skills
* Ability to read and interpret blueprints and product specifications. CAD design experience a plus.
* Self directed and have a passion for results
* Ability to travel frequently
* Knowledge of a second language, Spanish, French, German, Japanese or Chinese is helpful
