Department Summary
The Equipment, Materials and Standards (EM&S) Group within the Electric Transmission and High Voltage Distribution
Engineering (ET & HVDE) Department supports the equipment, materials, and standards used across the ET & HVDE
department.
Job Description/Responsibilities
The Electrical Engineer applies an intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad
areas of assignments and related fields; makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods; and
represents the organization in meetings to resolve important questions. Requires the use of advanced techniques and the
modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of his/her field and related sciences and disciplines.
Key responsibilities include:
Maintain and develop technical specifications for equipment and materials suitable for applications in Consumers
Energy's transmission and high voltage distribution substations
Work with team members to procure equipment and materials to meet project needs in regard to scope, schedule, and
cost
Maintain and develop, with various stakeholders, internal substation design standard documents
Directly resolve, or assist others in resolving, issues related to equipment and material availability and quality
Evaluate new substation equipment and equipment suppliers
Support systematic equipment and material piloting efforts
Develop and administrate (as part of a team) equipment and material blanket contract agreements
Contribute to project scope development
Review equipment documents (drawings, manuals, and test reports); supporting procurement cycle and long term asset
documentation needs
Rapidly develop skills and knowledge necessary to successfully complete assigned projects with varying degrees of
autonomy
Support Consumers Energy's storm and equipment failure responses
Provide coverage for team members on vacation or otherwise unavailable
Attend and possibly participate in industry standard activities as needed to maintain knowledge of current industry and
best practices

Requirements/Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program; preferred with Power option
The following skills and experience may set you apart from others:
Existing Michigan PE Licensure or demonstrated aptitude and intent (e.g., FE) to become licensed in an agreed upon
time frame is a requirement in this role.
Demonstrated interest in software development and/or scientific modeling skills. Prior familiarity with or use of
Consumers internal transformer modeling program may also set you apart.
The position will be filled at the appropriate level based on the selected candidate's skills, education and experience.
Essential Functions:
Planning, design, construction, and maintenance of Electric Distribution and Electric Generation systems as well as
facilities and ancillary support process for all utility operations. Duties and who this individual reports to will fluctuate
between projects, Practice Areas, and offices. Individual possesses the skills lead, problem solve, and work well in a team
environment. Individual should exemplify safe work practices and follow the company's compliance standards. Lead
and/or assist with engineering projects to include design, plans, inspections, system planning, specifications, reports,
maps, environmental impacts, permits, contracts, schedules, estimates, surveying, easements, data collection,
construction observation, and field investigation. Provide engineering services with accuracy, integrating all applicable
governmental and company laws, standards and procedures on time and under budget. Use computer assisted
engineering, design, and drafting software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents. Understand
