Department Summary
The Business Customer Care Internship Program is geared toward current college students who have a passion for
business and an interest in Consumers Energy and the energy industry. The Business Customer Care Internship
Program at Consumers Energy has core principles of skill development, ability enhancement, and knowledge application
experience designed to be complimentary to traditional classroom instruction.
This position provides in-depth Customer Data Maintenance activities to support various Company initiatives with
marketing, communications, business plan deployment, enhance business quality/effectiveness and overall support of
Corporate Breakthrough Goals.
Job Description/Responsibilities
Cooperative Assistants (Interns) of all levels will work as part of a larger team to provide hands-on support for various
technical support aspects of our business. This could include work in record maintenance, data submission, project
management, tracking of information, maintaining logs/spreadsheet, and other similar technical support duties as
assigned.
In addition to working alongside full time employees carrying out the business functions for Consumers Energy, Business
Customer Care Interns will have the opportunity to participate in a number of additional optional events within the
program. This includes intern networking events, company tours, and the consistently top-ranked event, the Intern
Challenge.

Requirements/Qualifications
Enrolled and actively pursuing a degree in the business field majoring in Marketing, Communications, Accounting,
Finance, Business Administration, Human Resource Management, or a similar program applicable to the department. The
minimum GPA requirement for this internship position is 3.0.

Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Suite including Access, Word, Excel and Powerpoint
Ability to lead project work to include reporting and analysis
Demonstrated Critical Thinking
Excellent Verbal/Written Communication skills
SAP Experience

Primary location of this internship will be in Grand Rapids , MI.

Essential Functions:
Performs technical support functions and more complex tasks including establishing workload and organizing and
conducting assignments according to deadlines. Sets up tech support systems including record maintenance, data
submission, and project management. Provides backup department support. Prepares reports, and tech support material
as directed from time to time. Maintains confidentiality. Performs or establishes procedures for tech support functions and
actions including records, tracking of information, maintaining logs/spreadsheet, and other similar technical support.
Under general direction, prepares special or one-time reports, summaries, or replies to inquiries, selecting relevant
information from a variety of sources such as reports, documents, correspondence, other areas of the Company, etc.
Ensures that requests for action or information are relayed to appropriate staff members; ensures that information is
furnished in a timely manner; decides whether a higher authority should be notified of important or emergency matters.
Periodically evaluates process and program effectiveness and takes action to maintain continuous improvement. Follows
all safety rules and procedures, and contributes to the safety of co-workers and the general public. Participates as an
active technical support team member by contributing to program development and organization planning. Operate a
computer terminal and utilize necessary software applications.Have aptitude and ability to learn and perform the duties of
the job. Performs responsibilities in a manner that clearly shows effective communication and cooperation and that
promotes open exchange of information, respect, high ethical standards and professionalism. Maintains work areas in a
clean and orderly manner.
