Department Summary
The Business Support Consultant Internship Program is geared toward current college students who have a passion for
business and an interest in Consumers Energy and the energy industry. The Business Support Consultant Internship
Program at Consumers Energy has core principles of skill development, ability enhancement, and knowledge application
experience designed to be complimentary to traditional classroom instruction.
Job Description/Responsibilities
Cooperative Assistants (Interns) of all levels will work as part of a larger team to provide hands-on support for various
business support aspects of our business. This could include the following:
- Responsible for tracking, reporting, and analyzing weekly customer data, and providing reports to the Executive Director,
VP, and other gas operations leadership.
- Create databases/spreadsheets in MS Office (Excel/Access) to process customer and operations data, and provide
resulting reports.
- Provide analytics around gas operations metrics for evaluation of business opportunities
- Provide support to Business Plan Deployment activities, including, but not limited to, creation and execution of business
work plans and lead creation of target conditions and corrective actions
- Provide business support/technical analysis of processes and procedures to the field organization around reporting of
Employee activities, time spent, and work completed
- Review budgeting requirements and report on job completions, costs, and errors, and provide reports and analysis
around these items
- Resource to the field organization for required business support and analysis on a variety of issues and requests that are
developed
In addition to working alongside full time employees carrying out the business functions for Consumers Energy, Business
Customer Care Interns will have the opportunity to participate in a number of additional optional events within the
program. This includes intern networking events, company tours, and the consistently top-ranked event, the Intern

Requirements/Qualifications
Enrolled and actively pursuing a degree in the business field majoring in Marketing, Communications, Accounting,
Finance, Business Administration, Human Resource Management, or a similar program applicable to the department. The
minimum GPA requirement for this internship position is 3.0.

The Business Support Consultant Intern position could be a year-round internship opportunity and is not limited to
summer only.
Essential Functions:
Business Support Advisors and Consultants support the planning, business analysis, general management, budget
preparations and analysis, negotiations, transactions, customer services and auditing of a wide variety of business
functions and processes of specific operating and support areas throughout the Company. Duties and who this individual
reports to will fluctuate between projects, departments and offices. Lead and/or assist with business analysis and support
for the plans, reports, impacts, contracts, schedules, estimates, data collection, observations, and field investigations.
Provide business analysis and support services with accuracy, on time and under budget. Use computer assisted
applications software and equipment to prepare business analysis support documents. Understand and follow Company
established standard procedures for file structure and standard procedures for projects. Become familiar with business
and department and Company plans and related material for each project and be able to utilize the information
appropriately. Assists in client contact and communication. Utilize effective communication skills to answer inquiries from
coworkers, clients, or the public. Public involvement may include producing reports, graphics, presentations, and other
visual material as well as occasional speaking or meeting with stakeholders. Attend internal and external meetings.
