Department Summary
This position is within the Forestry Operation department managing forestry clearing activities of LVD, HVD, and gas
pipelines across the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. This includes all O&M and capital expenditures associated with this
activity utilizing a contract work force in excess of 300 crews.
Job Description/Responsibilities
The Forestry Summer Intern is responsible for the planning of forestry work for a wide range of projects to support the
delivery of safe and reliable electricity and natural gas. The planning includes the marking of trees based on species and
growth characteristics, notifying property owners of the required work, and completing a work plan for the tree crews to
follow. Other responsibilities are: auditing completed herbicide and tree work, data entry, and assisting during storm
restoration activities.
There are 4 positions available which are located at various locations within our service territory.
Requirements/Qualifications
Education: Must be actively pursuing Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry or related field. Those with Bachelor degrees
that are pursuing Master degrees are eligible.

A strong background in tree identification at all times of the year
Willing to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
Willing to travel as work requires.
Essential Functions:
Inspects various phases of Forestry programs on a periodic basis. Utilizes GPS, GIS, computers, and computer
programs to produce desired maps, charts, tables, and reports. Is responsible for the planning of forestry work for a wide
range of projects to support the delivery of safe and reliable electricity and natural gas. The planning includes the marking
of trees based on species and growth characteristics, notifying property owners of the required work, and completing a
work plan for the tree crews to follow. Other responsibilities are: field auditing completed work plans to assure work was
completed to company specifications, addressing customer requests for work, and customer concerns for work being
performed.
Hours and Travel
This position requires the individual work 40 hours per week with 85% of time spent in specific field locations.

vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually
moderate. The noise level on the field site is often loud.
