General Motors Warren Technical Center Design Operations have needs for qualified Metal Model Makers in two areas of the business which requires specific skills as described below.
In Design Operations, working under minimal supervision, the Metal Model Maker Journeyperson is responsible for the construction of a variety of models used for design evaluation and clinic purposes.
In Pre-Production Machining, Tooling and Stamping Operations, working under minimal supervision, the Metal Model Maker Journeyperson provides a variety of services that support quality pre-production vehicle development and research activities. Services include tool design and build, part fabrication, body-in-white weld tools, research projects, test lab fixtures and CMM and Scanner support.
DESIGN OPERATIONS PRIMARY RESPONSIBLITIES
- Follow established safety procedures according to OSHA standards and company procedures
- Fabricate models from drawings, designer or engineering verbal direction and/or math data
- Work in different mediums such as ferrous, non-ferrous, wax, plastic, etc
- Operate all metal working machines such as mills, lathes, pantograph, brake press, etc
- Perform ground up construction of specialty vehicles including chassis fabrication, powertrain and complete interior component installation
- Disassemble and assemble production vehicles with enhancements including interior and exterior body panel removal
- Perform metal finishing and surfacing of fiberglass and exterior body panel removal
- Perform bench engineering – troubleshooting of mechanical parts and making adjustments/corrections
- Work with Production, Engineering and peers in a team environment
PRE-PRODUCTION MACHINING, TOOLING AND STAMPING OPERATIONS PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow established safety procedures according to OSHA standards and company procedures
- Part and Fixture inspection/GD&T
- Operate CMM equipment & Scanning equipment
- Conduct laser programming using Fast Trim software & Laser machine operation
- Perform NX programming and CNC machining
- Perform stamping operations – Blank Development, Die Tryout, Die Handling & Press operations
- Perform die barbering and die surface finishing
- Operate all metal working machines (e.g., grinding, drilling, milling, lathe, punch press, press brake, shearing and sheet metal qualifying)
- Work with engineers and peers in a team environment
- Conduct die and weld tool design using NX software
- Use Autoform, die face development and formability
