DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position Description:
The Program Fastener Engineer is responsible for the design and release of new threaded and non-threaded fasteners for body, chassis and powertrain installed applications, and supports Product Development engineers with subject matter expertise in the area of fastener selection and joint design. The fastener engineer also works with Ford manufacturing plants to solve assembly issues. The emphasis is on teamwork with Ford Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, fastener test technicians and other fastener engineers, as well as with fastener and finish suppliers.
Position Duties:
* Assist design & release engineers in joint design development and selection of fasteners and finishes
* Approve design and release of fastener drawings and finishes in areas of responsibility
* Manage fastener usage based upon Ford global design practices and finish strategy
* Coordinate fastener testing; review and approve assembly torque specifications
* Support resolution of assembly, launch and field issues related to fastener and joint design, including travel to Ford or supplier sites as necessary
* Interface with global fastener counterparts in Europe, South America and Asia-Pacific regions
* Work with Ford Purchasing identify and implement Team Value Management opportunities
