School Bus Monitors/Aides
Michigan Educational Transportation Services (METS) recognizes that our drivers carry the worlds most precious cargo, children. Children deserve a quality education and a familiar face to get them there. METS facilitates experienced professional drivers and monitors from local communities, that are employed by METS, to work within the district assisting with the transporting of students to school and school related activities.
School Bus Monitors are needed at this time in the Portland Public Schools (Portland, MI) for the 2012-2013 school year. Training would take place during the summer in preparation for the beginning of the school year. This is the perfect position for someone that enjoys interacting with children and being paid to do what you enjoy! A School Bus Aide position is a great income earner for college students, retirees and anyone that desires a flexible schedule. No previous experience required. Training is provided at no cost to qualified applicants.
Job Summary:
Bus Monitors are responsible for assisting students in boarding and exiting school buses and ensuring student safety while students are being transported on school buses. Position rides the bus and assures a safe and orderly ride for students. Position also provides the bus driver with support as needed, both during routine activities and during emergencies.
Responsibilities:
1. Ability to relate to and work with parents, students, and other staff members.
2. Follow all client district rules and regulations.
3. Ability to manage and maintain all students on the bus in a calm and safe manner.
Requirements:
1. Undergo pre-employment drug testing (if applicable).
2. Must pass State and FBI Criminal Background Check per MDE regulations and client district policies. (This cost is paid by the applicant approximately $65.)
3. Monitor and control student behavior while on the bus.
4. Ability to successfully respond to stressful situations.
5. Able to understand and have empathy for children and persons with disability.
6. Must be a high school graduate or equivalent (GED).

Salary: Varies based on district assignment
Starting Date: Training to take place during the summer, position would start at the beginning of the new school year
