DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position Overview/Description:
We are looking for people with IT experience to take part in a 3 month mainframe training program where we will train you to be a Mainframe System Engineer. After 3 months you will be placed in one of the 10 groups in the mainframe infrastructure team to obtain hands on mainframe experience. Every 2-5 years you will be given the opportunity to rotate to one of the other mainframe infrastructure teams to further your mainframe knowledge. For example: In the Mainframe Software group you will install and support operating systems and over 100 software products. In the Automation group you will automate manual processes to relieve people from watching to see if jobs finished on time. In the Host Communication group you will support the TCPIP, SNA, etc. In the security group you will support the RACF environment assuring that mainframe access is properly controlled. In the database group you may install and support CICS, IMS, DB2, Focus, WebSphere or MQ Series.
With your strong analytical mind, you will resolve issues, program mainframe solutions and ensure that performance meets service level agreements. Your persistent drive for quality will aid you when you take your turn in the on call pager rotation so that you are doing your part to ensure the mainframe is up and running 365 days a year. Your persuasive communication skills will assist you with presenting management the results of proof of concepts and automation evaluations projects. You will partner with Mainframe Engineers to ensure that the mainframe roadmap of the future is brought to life.
As a team player, you will create impact by collaborating across the Mainframe organization and with key work partners throughout the company - mainframe engineering, application teams and technology teams.
Our diverse Mainframe Team is situated in the greater Detroit area but we support the mainframe infrastructure in multiple countries. Our team works to understand Fords ever changing world, identify new opportunities, and take action to design and innovate Ford’s mainframe infrastructure to be as reliable, available and secure as it can possible be.
Responsibilities:
* Install, support, customize, test and implement mainframe automation (Automation implementation is conducted during weekend maintenance windows)
* Assist with the development of solutions for operational problems
* Participate in Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Tests
* Resolve request and incident tickets
* Participate in the on call rotation to provide after hours and weekend support
* Participate in proof of concept projects and evaluate automation products and make acquisitions recommendations to management
* Program mainframe solutions
* Ensure performance to Service Level Agreements (SLA)
* Create and maintain operational system documentation.
