Department Summary
Project Engineering provides engineering leadership for all Energy Resources (ER) projects, including renewables, hydro,
coal generation, gas generation and gas compression and storage. Project types can vary from new generation and
environmental to plant modifications and maintenance. The department consists of a multidiscipline group of project
engineers to support ER Projects.
Job Description/Responsibilities
The Team Lead, Mechanical Engineering is responsible for the leadership, management, administration, planning and
execution of all engineering aspects of capital and maintenance projects within Energy Resources. The Team Lead is
responsible for ensuring projects are adequately resourced as well as ensuring adherence to design standards and that
detailed design(s) meets all applicable compliance and regulatory requirements. The Team Lead is responsible for
regularly coordinating with his/her counterparts in the Design Standards group to assist in the maintenance of up-to-date
and accurate design basis documents, design standards and overall coordination in their specific discipline during project
execution. The Team Lead ensures that project work is properly coordinated between other project engineering
departments, internal and external engineers of record, vendors, fabricators and contractors to meet project requirements.
The Team Lead will be responsible for the selection, training, and professional development of his/her direct staff.
The Team Lead, Mechanical Engineering within Project Engineering is responsible for the following:
Direct and control the work performed by the Project Engineering Mechanical Engineering staff such that the work is
performed safely and at a high level of quality
Provide leadership and coaching for the growth and development of Project Engineering Mechanical Engineering staff
Provide Mechanical Engineering functional support to ER projects and to the Design and Operate organizations in
support of ongoing operations as needed
Develop Mechanical Engineering technical specifications and bid documents for engineered equipment, materials
engineering and construction contracts
Support Build in the evaluation engineering, vendor and contractor capabilities
Responsible for the development of conceptual design and design basis documents for projects within Energy
Resources
Responsible for the development of detailed design documents by the Engineer of Record, either by internal project
engineering staff or by contracted services.
Proactively communicate with Energy Resources leadership
Manage multiple projects, initiatives and activities
Identify, analyze and recommend corrective actions to technical issues identified in the field during project execution or
initial operation.
Consults with project organization concerning design constructability as related to field conditions, sequencing and
scheduling of construction activities.
Direct employee safety performance
Requirements/Qualifications
Engineering degree from an ABET accredited program or advanced degree in the specific discipline
8 years of experience
Experience within mechanical engineering and plant experience
Knowledgeable of the design, construction, or operation of electric generating plant and gas compressor station
equipment
Knowledge in project management including safety leadership, schedule logic and implementation, procurement and
construction means and methods
Knowledge of industry and building codes as they relate to discipline specific design and construction
Knowledge of planning and permitting as they relate to discipline specific design and construction
Experience in reviewing designs to assure compliance with engineering design, applicable codes, constructability, and
industry standards
Experience in procurement of engineered material, equipment and professional services
The following skills and experience will set you apart from others:
Professional Engineer License required or able to obtain within 1 year
Experience directing professional workforce
The location for this position is at the West Olive-based JH Campbell Plant
