Rating Analyst II - New Business Underwriting - NEW00003
DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Departmental Summary
This position is in the New Business Underwriting Department. This person will prepare rate quotations for insured and self insured prospective groups based on various assumptions. Completion of all group sold functions. Work on special projects as assigned.
Work with departmental reporting system and databases. Creating charts, pivot tables, V-Look up, conditional formatting in Excel. Creating forms, reports and query design including table, crosstab and sub queries in addition to tracing and troubleshooting in Access.
* Under general supervision responsible for determining renewal rates and group settlement accountings; prepares ERISA reports and new business proposals or financial arrangements for larger or moderately complex groups.
* Calculates renewal rates in accordance with standard underwriting formulas and procedures then analyzes projected financial impacts. Analyzes group data to assess appropriateness of outcomes in the rating and settlement processes.
* Develops quarterly and financial settlement accountings and Incurred But Not Reported (IBNR) calculations.
* Prepares ERISA reports.
* Develops rate quotations for prospective groups through various means of analysis such as reviewing the financial condition of the prospect, demographics of employee groups, participation levels, type of industry classification and prior claim experience.
* Responds to internal and external requests for specific analysis regarding customers need to better understand the financing of health care in conjunction with an employers benefit offerings.
* Approves and/or rejects requests for underwriting policy exceptions. Develops special analysis to illustrate financial trends and impact on specific group costs and expenses.
* Provides support to Rating Analyst III with the presentation of financial information to internal staff, group customers and consultants.
