This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.
Unit Position Summary
We are looking to hire an individual for a part-time, temporary position in a Parkinson's disease research laboratory at the Grand Rapids Research Center. The project the individual would work on is designed to determine the effects of features of diabetes on Parkinson’s disease progression. The position would require general laboratory experience and animal handling on a daily basis. Specifically, the individual will perform weekly health assessments on rodents (blood tests and weight checks), and will participate in the tissue collection, preparation for and analysis or histological endpoints from this project. Additionally, the individual may participate in other related projects, learning and using skills such as RNA extraction, PCR, and the assessment of animal motor behaviors. A successful candidate will need to be able to quickly learn the necessary skills required for the project, and be willing to work with animals (rats).
Desired Qualifications
General lab experience: pipetting, solution making, etc.
Animal handling experience (rat): injections, tissue/blood collection, processing for histological endpoints.
