JOB SUMMARY: Produce machined parts by setting up and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies. Experience with vertical, horizontal and 5 axis machining centers is required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Operate all common machine shop equipment and hand tools skill fully.
2. Work from prints or drawings to produce a variety of items.
3. Set up machines for less skilled production machine operators, mount fixtures, install tooling.
4. Assist lower-level machine operators to develop skills and to produce production parts to specifications.
5. Produce precision items beyond the capabilities of production machine operators.
6. Follow lockout-tagout procedures when machines must be shut down for repair.
7. Oversee production area to make sure machine operators are sweeping daily, disposing of scrap properly, and maintaining the workplace in a safe and orderly manner.
8. Plan machine operations by studying blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications and orthographic drawings.
9. Interpret geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
10. Edit programs when required by entering instructions, including zero and reference points
11. Set tool registers and offsets.
12. Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving and cutting operations; take measurements, detect malfunctions, troubleshoot processes, adjust and re-program controls; sharpen and replace worn tools, adhere to quality assurance processes and procedures.
13. Set up machine centers by mounting fixtures and installing tooling.
14. Coordinate with QC – i) First piece approval, ii) Production monitoring, iii) In-process inspections
15. Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
16. Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, follow manufacturer's instruction manual; troubleshoot malfunctions; call for repairs.
17. Coordinate work shift change by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs. Complete in-process inspections.
18. Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; read technical publications.
