Position Overview:
The Safety Coordinator is an integral part of the “Management Team” and is proactively involved in partnering with functional leadership to provide guidance, process consistency and direction on all safety activities across the Business Units. In addition, to overseeing and managing Safety related functions this position will also be actively involved in organization wide safety initiatives as a subject matter resource and advisor. (Stamping/Assembly Manufacturing Environment)
Functions:
* Provide problem solving, analysis, training, coaching and leadership to plant and team safety resources related to safety & ergonomic improvements.
* Lead and or support problem solving and lean implementation in manufacturing processes, focusing on safety and ergonomic processes
* Coordinate plant investigations of safety & health incidents and near misses; ensure corrective actions are developed and implemented
* Lead in developing action plans and conducting follow-up audits to address relevant plant Safety issues and adherence to applicable policies and procedures, including improvement and compliance work
* Partner with all functional area management to develop, interpret, and monitor fair and consistent application of corporate and BU policies, processes, and procedures
* Counsel and mentor employees and management in solving problems that impact the safety of the workplace
* Collect data, maintain records and manage filing systems for Environmental Health and Safety.
* Generate and review daily, weekly, monthly, and annual safety and environmental reports, as required
* Ensure written programs are reviewed as required and are kept current.
* Develop, facilitate, schedule and coordinate safety training sessions.
* Attend and report BU safety and drive initiatives/programs developed as action items.
* Lead and/or participate in team established to indentify root cause analysis of environmental and health and safety concerns.
* Ensure corrective actions are communicated to team members and incorporated into training and written programs.
* If necessary, assist with Workers Compensation.
* Actively involved in cross-functional team
* Become trained in safety issues to complement plant programs.
* Work in an honest and ethical manner, maintaining confidentiality on all business related matters.
Competencies:
* Solid working knowledge of hazard assessments, emergency response planning and the ability to develop & deliver effective training
* Solid working knowledge of incident investigation processes and requirements
* Solid working knowledge of principles of ergonomics in an industrial setting.
* Knowledge and understanding of safety & environmental processes, procedures and systems
* Ability to organize, classify and structure multiple pieces of information accurately.
* Solid judgment and decision making aptitude in weighing relative cost and benefits of business actions.
* Ability to “Critically Think” utilizing logic and analysis to identify the strengths and weaknesses of different business approaches.
* Ability to successfully function in a matrix style of management.
* Excellent organizational and follow-up skills; competent in problem solving, team building, and planning and shows aggressiveness when completing assignments and other responsibilities.
