General Summary:
Saginaw Public Schools Campus Patrol Officers are responsible for being a visible deterrent by providing a safe and secure learning environment for students and a safe and secure working environment for staff.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of school policies

Awareness of potential fire hazards, unsafe conditions, and other security risks

Skilled in investigation techniques and incident reporting

Proficient in one-on-one and small group presentation techniques

Skilled in de-escalation and physical take-down techniques

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, reports, and correspondence

Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural, urban setting and build rapport with students, staff, parents, and the community

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist building administration with investigations of violations within school jurisdiction

Enforce school rules and laws, help manage crowds, and support student discipline

Prepare written reports on security incidents as requested

Cooperate with law enforcement, fire, or government agencies
-
Serve as liaison with probation and court officers connected to student cases

Maintain flexible hours to support after-school, evening, and weekend events
-
Patrol buildings, grounds, and parking lots

Regulate vehicle and pedestrian traffic at school entrances

Monitor for and report fire hazards, unsafe conditions, and suspicious activity

Prevent theft of district property

Address and refer unacceptable student behavior to administration

Monitor and investigate questionable student activity and campus access

Maintain regular and predictable attendance

Perform other duties as assigned
Education and/or Experience:
-
High school diploma or equivalent
-
Post-secondary education or experience in security, criminal justice, or law enforcement required
-
Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement preferred
Special Requirements:
Must attend all mandatory training sessions as directed by building administrators or the Director of Human Resources & Labor Relations.
Working Conditions:
The employee must regularly move throughout buildings and grounds, often interacting with students and responding to inappropriate behavior. This position includes both indoor and outdoor patrol in all weather conditions. Physical engagement with students may be required to maintain safety.
