Job Summary:
Instruct students in grades 6-12 in activities designed to promote a Choir program and provide an environment favorable to learning and personal growth in accordance with each student’s ability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- ?Help to lead the vocal program in such a way that students improve in skill and artistry both individually and as ensembles.
- Increase the excitement for vocal music with our students and our community.
- Use multiple teaching strategies to meet the learning needs of different students
- Support other performing-arts programs, including the instrumental and musical-theater and programs
- Work and coordinate with our Fine Arts Department
- Develop unique opportunities for the choir students to showcase their individual and ensemble talents, such as our annual Cabaret and other events
- Work with colleagues to continue to implement, assess and meet our school-improvement goals
- Work with colleagues effectively and cooperatively in the music department
- Work cooperatively with other colleagues, such as special-education teachers and counselors, to serve as part of a team to support at-risk students
- Work to maintain and continue to build the 6-12 choral-music program at a high level of excellence
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Regular and consistent attendance.
- Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Portage Public Schools Employee Handbook.

Qualifications
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certification with proper grade level (6-12).
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with JX or JQ endorsement for Music Education.
- Bachelor’s degree including all courses to meet credential requirements.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administration, district staff, and the public.
- Experience and interest in successfully working with and building a choral-music program and extensive repertoire experience that enhances student learning.
- Ability to assume responsibility, display initiative, and exercise good judgment.
- Proficient computer and document skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
