Department Summary
The I&C Communications Circuit Technician position is an exciting, interesting and challenging position within the
Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Division of the Electric Transmission & High Voltage Distribution (HVD) Engineering
Department. The I&C Division is responsible for all electric system I&C engineering, design and standards activities for
both the high- and low-voltage distribution systems of Consumers Energy. This Technician position is located at the
Parnall Road office in Jackson, MI.
Job Description/Responsibilities
The Technician is a key member of I&C and provides ongoing support to electric substation capital and O&M projects by
determining and coordinating required work on the telco communication circuit(s) into the substations. These circuits may
be hardwired copper, as well as fiber optic cable.
Job responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, being able to analyze, read and decipher both I&C and

substation visits will be required by the technician, in support of the above. The willingness to travel alone to sites close to
Jackson and sites 3 hours away for site meetings with Telco representatives and the CE Electric Field Lab is critical in
this role. In addition, willingness to potentially stay overnight where site meetings are scheduled later in the morning or
early afternoon for those sites that are 3-4 hours away will be required.
The Technician will also assist in the HVD project scope document process, project cost-estimates, project meetings and
site meetings, as required. A significant amount of time utilizing computer-based applications will also be required.
