Department Summary
The Production Cost Modeling function within Energy Supply Operations is responsible for the short-, mid- and long-term
energy and capacity planning and operational, financial, and investment decisions. Specifically, the team provides power
supply forecasts to ensure ample generation for peak customer demand, analyzes impacts of energy efficiency programs
and new generation resources, as well as providing the detailed information for the recovery of investments through
Michigan Public Service Commission filings.
Job Description/Responsibilities
The Merchant Transmission Modeling Analyst supports a number of short-term and unique forecasting activities within the
Production Cost Modeling team. The Analyst is responsible for the collection of data sets and metrics, consumption of
data through a number of software tools, which may require advanced technical knowledge, and provide meaningful
insights into the data. Analysis and forecasting data from next day to the next month is in scope for this position.
Key Responsibilities include:
Develop short-term predictions of electric demand and electric price
Create back-of-the-bill energy and emissions report
Write Python programs to streamline existing processes
Use Metrix IDR, PROMOD, MS Excel, and other software tools for metrics and analysis of data
Analyze data related to generator economics and electric market conditions
Evaluate the economic impact of short-term generation outages
Evaluate transmission congestion
Perform economic analysis of transmission congestion and transmission projects
Coordinate efforts with other Production Cost Modeling groups and/or other organizations within Consumers Energy
Requirements/Qualifications
A bachelor's degree is required; preferred field of study in Engineering or related technical field
Proficiency with MS Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision making skills
Interest in engineering economics and statistical analysis
Ability to learn quickly and apply new skills to a task
Knowledge/application of software and platforms
Ability to multi-task and prioritize work appropriately
Ability to think creatively to develop new, automated solutions
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of associates in the
organization

Masters or other advanced degree, ideally in a technical or business area
Energy industry background that includes a working knowledge of effectively mapping technology to business
challenges
Essential Functions
Planning, design, and analysis of investments related to Electric and Gas Distribution and Electric Generation systems as

Lead and/or assist with engineering projects to include design, plans, inspections, system planning, specifications,
