POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for developing, implementing and documenting the provision of direct services to trainees. These responsibilities may occur in the classroom, production or community settings with the intended outcomes of increased independence and community inclusion for those served.
EDUCATION: Post secondary education preferred
EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years experience working with individuals who have a developmental emotional or physical disability
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES: Documented skill in the areas of written and verbal communication, group dynamics, plan and goal implementation, human relations, advocacy and organization of work assignment. Decision making skills and knowledge of the philosophy of person centered planning and consumer choice.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Required to carry, lift and move 50 lbs. on a daily basis. Required to ambulate independently within the organization and the community. Required to maintain a level of alertness and high energy required to complete job duties, including a variety of physical (gross motor) activities and for quick response to emergencies.
MENTAL DEMANDS: Required to remain objective and to respond appropriately while working with persons served. Must exhibit unconditional patience, frustration tolerance and positive attitude. Must possess ability to communicate empathetically with trainees and respect trainee’s right to choose. Demonstrate effective problem solving skill.
MACHINES/EQUIPMENT: Basic office equipment. Must be able to drive a 15-passenger van.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Interactive position with consumers, employers and outside sources in a variety of classroom, industrial and community settings. Required to transport trainees to alternative service sites in the community
POSITION DUTIES
1. Develop and implement curriculum and lesson plans that will assist trainees in the accomplishment of their goals and objectives.
2. Implement skill building training in-groups, classes and one-on-one, which provides knowledge, skill development and/or support in a variety of community and facility based settings. Coordinate the development of specialized activities, groups or one-on-one training including vocational skills training support groups, community based volunteer activities, special trips, community events and enclaves.
3. Complete necessary documentation in the areas of assessment/evaluation, the summarization of trainees progress, attendance data, consumer payroll, service/activities outcomes, incident and accident reports, recipient rights complaints, case notes, etc. Documentation may be written or data enter a database.
4. Participate in all assigned meetings, including department, in-service, organization staff, and individual support plan meetings, both on and off site, as required.
5. Set up workstations and train trainees to complete sub-contract enclave, and volunteer jobs and skill building activities both on and off site, as required.
6. Complete work/training site requirements including but not limited to inspection lot control, time studies, inventory control, quality control and other duties as required.
7. Monitor and document the activities of trainees as assigned during the day (during groups, breaks, lunch and at the end of the day) to ensure trainee participation and safety.
8. Provide timely and safer transportation for trainees and from training sites and community activities.
9. Assist in monitoring vehicle maintenance needs by keeping the vehicle clean, by completing vehicle maintenance/safety checklists and possess working knowledge of on-board roadside equipment.
10. Obtain/maintain certification in CPR and/or First Aid.
11. Keep informed of professional developments and trends in the field, utilizes educational opportunities, and job related in service training offered by the organization.
12. Cooperate in coordinating assignments with other staff to provide necessary coverage to serve trainees, employees, donors and other customers of the organization.
