We are currently seeking a Network Systems Specialist to join our Lansing, MI location.
This position is responsible for integration, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Network System Resources; to include cable plant, network switches, appliances, servers, scanners, faxes, printers and operating systems. Includes administration tasks in support of host environments, hardware, software, upgrades, and maintenance.
Essential Duties and Tasks
Project/task management of various complexities
Management and general operation of company LAN/WAN environment
Testing and implementation of operating system and application fixes, patches and new releases
Monitoring of system resource and capacity planning
Performance and tuning for optimal performance of the Network environment.
Administer security for Network system access
Implement computer security restrictions by issuing user identification codes and passwords, defining and administrating rules for access
Assist with the development of disaster recovery procedures
Installation and setup of vendor software and workstations
Respond to help desk trouble tickets and man help desk as needed
Assist in break/fix and rebuild of workstations as required
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Ability to work independently analyzing, evaluating, reviewing and recommending new products, changes, and modifications for new or current systems
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and capable of writing proposals/papers, acting as a vendor liaison, making presentations to professional peers and working closely with upper management
Ability to solve problems quickly and completely
Ability to identify tasks which require automation and automate them
Solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts; understands principles of routing, client/server programming, and the design of consistent network-wide file system layouts
Must be available on call 24/7
Requires high school diploma; IT college degree or equivalent experience
Knowledge and experience with the following technologies are a plus:
A , Cisco, Microsoft, Linux, UNIX certification(s)
UTP cable plant design, installation, and repair
Fiber Optic cable plant design and maintenance
Racking servers (Dell/HP) and peripherals
Design and configure Internet Protocol services
Network switch IOS configuration of VLAN, Fabric and remote access
Familiarity with defining and managing Firewall rules
Blue Coat Proxy, GE Facility Commander and Intellex appliances
Active Directory Domain Services – GPO, scripts, user, file and print
HP EVA and ISA SAN/NAS resources
HP Data Protector and Quantum tape libraries
Web site support on ISS, HTTP and Tomcat
Microsoft Systems Center/Essentials, WSUS and WISE packaging methods
VMware Server, vSphere, Converter, ESXi, Citrix XenDesktop, and Workstation
McAfee ePO, AVE, ASE and encryption
Aspect unified and voice over IP telephony systems
