Roush Management, LLC, a full service engineering company in Allen Park, Michigan, seeks 2 Lead Powertrain Calibration Engineers to oversee complex dyno and vehicle based calibration development and testing for automotive and heavy truck powertrain systems. National and international travel for hot/cold weather testing of vehicle systems required 10-15% of the time. Duties: direct powertrain systems development and calibrate powertrain systems, including Base Engine Functions, On Board Diagnostics, and Variable Cam Timing; guide and develop software strategy for Base Engine Functions within the OEM powertrain controls module; supervise and perform dynamometer testing for engine mapping and hardware development; train calibration engineers in use of calibration tools software, such as ETAS INCA or ATI Vision, for data collection and calibration of powertrain systems; formulate, direct, and oversee hot/cold climate and high altitude testing; analyze test results using Excel / Matlab based tools, ETAS MDA or ATI Vision, in order to calibrate powertrain control systems; support the integration, validation and release of calibrations into production operations; presentation of technical analyses and reports on project status for signoff; selection and development of hardware components for powertrain system design, from concept through production; improve calibration consistency through the development of calibration methodology and use of software tools, such as Excel or Matlab based tools, for the optimization of base engine functions; monitor test data integrity using statistical methods to enable early detection of potential engine and dynamometer hardware and instrumentation issues. Minimum education and experience required: Master degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering 3 years’ experience in a powertrain calibration engineering or powertrain systems engineering position or combination. Or Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering 5 years’ experience in a powertrain calibration engineering or powertrain systems engineering position or combination. Special experience/skills required: Work experience must include: development of calibration methodology for powertrain system components, including variable cam timing, turbocharger, exhaust gas recirculation, and direct fuel injection; calibration of feedforward and Proportional Integral Derivative controls based feedback control systems; development and implementation of calibration timeline; leading dynamometer testing for hardware development and engine mapping; using Design of Experiments techniques for base engine calibration efficiency improvements; data acquisition using ETAS INCA or ATI Vision and data analysis using Matlab, Excel, ETAS MDA or ATI Vision; performing climate testing and validation of vehicles inside environmental test facilities and during calibration development trips; coordinating calibration integration, release and database management; training calibration engineers on calibration methodology and tools.
