DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position provides process engineering support to manufacturing in several manufacturing processes that affect properties of materials (forging, heat treat, welding, etc) and/or to perform failure and post-test analysis on the engine components following lab, customer or field returns.Work assignments include design, analysis, testing, development, preparation of specifications, process study, research investigations, report preparation and other activities of limited scope requiring knowledge of principles, practices, techniques and commonly employed in the specific narrow area of assignments.Performs work which involves conventional types of plans, investigations, surveys, structures or equipment with relatively few complex features for which there are precedents.Requires excellent personal skills in order to be able to effectively communicate at all levels of organization- manufacturing floor to upper management. Limited interaction with external customers during the APQP process, PPAP submission and/or presenting/discussing results of failure analysis.Support internal customers: Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Sales/Product Engineering and Manufacturing departments in the plants. Limited interaction with Purchasing and suppliers to enforce compliance to F-M materials specifications.Completes projects with minimal supervision/guidance. Receives instruction on specific assignment objectives, points of emphasis, reference and application of sound engineering judgment.May direct technicians assigned to assist in the project work.Participates in team structure as an area expert representative.Provides independent evaluation, selection and application of standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, usingjudgment and ingenuity in making minor adaptations and modification.Provides problem solving, including process optimization to reduce scrap and improve robustness of a process where sources of scrap maybe masked by previous operations/processes, or complete technical failure analysis to not only determine the causes of failure, but to suggestdesign/process solutions.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors Degree in Materials Engineering/Metallurgy/Mechanical and a minimum of 5 years experience or Masters Degree in Materials Engineering/Metallurgy/Mechanical and 2 years of experience, preferably in automotive high volume type of business.
Preferred 3 years of experience with one of the following: forging, cold forming, heat treatment, welding, non-destructive testing or 3 years of experience in failure analysis.
Work experience in a team environment, with at least one project leader assignment is preferred.
