The American Red Cross is currently seeking a Maintenance Technician to be based in our Grand Rapids Chapter. This position will also be responsible for janitorial work when our volunteers are unavailable.
Job Summary:
Assists in the management of Chapter properties, facilities and vendor contracts.Directs the maintenance and repair of buildings, labs, offices and grounds. May oversee receipt, inventory and distribution of materials.May also assist the Facilities Manager in maintaining the Chapter’s vehicle fleet.
Responsibilities:
1. Directsthe work of service vendor staff involved with the maintenance, repairand upkeep of buildings, grounds, labs and equipment.2. May perform receipt of inventory and distribution of materials.3. Oversees work performed by outside contractors.4. Ensures compliance with all organizational policies and practices in adherence to regulatory requirements as needed.5. May perform responsibilities with regards to processes and contact negotiations.6. May assist in writing, organizing and maintaining technical sections of the department procedure manual.7. Assists with managing the budgetary process.8. Itis the responsibility of all Red Cross Staff members to recruit, trainand work with volunteers and to treat all clients, volunteers, guests,and other employees in a courteous and respectful manner at all timeswhile maintaining a cooperative atmosphere for everyone. It is expected that each member of the regional management team to work with avolunteer counterpart to ensure key volunteers are utilized and ensuredepth within the function.9. Carries out any additional assignments required to fulfill the Mission of the American Red Cross.
Essential Functions/Physical Requirements:Depending on work assignment, may require ordinary ambulatory skillssufficient to visit other locations; or the ability to stand, walk andmanipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights up to 20 pounds.Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity,including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operateequipment and read technical information. Overall mobility is essential including sitting for long periods of time, driving a vehicle and working under challenging conditions.
Work Conditions: Workis performed indoors with some potential for exposure to safety andhealth hazards related to emergency services relief work. May travel andparticipate in meetings and conferences throughout chapterjurisdiction, state and Red Cross system. Because the Red Cross is adisaster response organization, staff may be asked to be on 24-hour callduring period of major disaster.

Qualifications:
Education: High School or equivalent. Ability to become proficient with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
