POSITION TITLE: Patient Account Representative/Financial Counselor
REPORTS TO: Business Office Director
POSITION PURPOSE: The function of Patient Account Representative/Financial Counselor is to perform all duties relative to insurance verification, registration, and financial counseling of all patients.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for auditing and correcting the admission packets per company policy.
- Responsible for the verification and data entry of all demographic information during Business Office hours.
- Drafts patient invoices and provides financial counseling on patient balances.
- Reconcile and input daily outpatient charges (IP and PHP).
- Completes 2565 forms for indigent Patients and maintains log for submitted 2565s.
- Responsible for maintaining patient upfront collection log as required.
- Completes all appropriate logs as necessary.
- Pulls closed financial charts and files them weekly.
- Follow-up on self-pay and time-pay accounts.
- All other duties as assigned and special assignments as requested by the Business Office Director or other hospital management staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A working knowledge of medical terminology, medical billing, and CPT codes.
- Associate’s degree in business, medical billing, or humanities required. Two years documented experience in financial counseling, collections, medical billing, and/or patient registration can be accepted in lieu of education.
- Analytical skills to assess data and formulation appropriate and prompt sequence of steps to resolve patient questions or concerns.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with a diverse population.
- Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. Experience with insurance verification and patient registration preferred.
