DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist and support the leadership team of the Rating and Underwriting department in the rating, underwriting and maintenance of employer groups. Incumbent will underwrite new business and group wide changes, produce proposals and quotes and renewals. The incumbent analyzes financial data, group and member characteristics to determine financial risk associated with the acceptance or rejection of proposed and existing business.
Underwrite and generate necessary rate documents for new business groups. This will include reviewing information submitted on the group application (i.e. industry, financial condition, employee contribution, competitive influence, etc.), assignment of group number and commission rates and determination of how premium rates should be configured on the billing system. Preparation and coordination of employer group rate renewals. Analyze competitor rates and benefits to assess market competitiveness and ensure positive financial results. Calculate participation levels and review employer contribution levels to ensure penetration in the group will not lead to adverse selection. Review pre- and post-billing error reports and advise the Group Maintenance Technician of updated information. Review and approve requests for group wide changes. This includes, and is not limited to, changes to eligibility requirements, new hire/rehire guidelines, benefit levels, renewal dates, etc. Research and resolve inquiries from agents and BCBSM sales personnel relating to rating, underwriting and commissions. Assist Senior Underwriter in the preparation of profit/loss statements or other data reporting required for key employer groups. Other duties as assigned by leadership. Participate in corporate committees or workgroups.
