Our Auburn Hills, MI customer is seeking (1) experienced Project Engineer (Flat Glass Engineering/Container Glass/Float Process) for direct hire. Reports to the Director of Float Process Engineering.

Summary: Responsible for the design and installation of 1 or more of the following:
- Glass melting furnaces (large glass furnaces; 300-800 ton); gas-fired furnaces
- Batch House and Cullet Systems
- Tin Baths
- Annealing Lehrs
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Flat Glass Engineering Dept., Regional and Facility leaders/teams to develop project scopes, budgets and schedules
- Manage the scope, budget and schedule throughout the project and document, justify, and obtain approvals for significant changes
- Prepare RFQs, contractor analysis and selection, contract and contractor management as required
- Manage all aspects related to assigned portion of the projects
- Provide management with project status reports as needed
- Will effectively implement float glass productions to support business and innovation needs.
Requirements:
- Bachelors’ of Science Engineering Degree is required – Ceramic (preferred), Chemical (considered) or Mechanical Engineering; (will not consider a Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Engineering Technology Degrees). Advanced technical degree / training: Ceramic, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering; not Civil.
- 5-10 years’ of Engineering experience is required in glass furnaces. Similar companies and/or competitors/suppliers in FLOAT are: Cardinal, PPG, AFG, and Pilkington; for CONTAINER: companies that make bottles, jars similar to Owens Illinois/OI in Toledo, OH. Doesn’t want Teco as that is a supplier they cannot pull from.
- Experience in float production capital projects and skilled in furnace (glass furnaces; 500-800 ton production), chimney, batch house, tin bath or annealing lehr designs and installation supervision.
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision in a team environment
- Strong technical knowledge to design, specify, procure, install and commission systems
- Skilled to predict, recognize, and effectively solve problems and interferences
- Communicate effectively (verbal and written) within the department, regional, and global organizations. Fluent in English.
- Ability to drive results through influencing others without having direct authority
- Travel internationally when needed (likely 30%-40%), so needs valid Passport
