Department Summary
We are looking for an experienced environmental engineer / project manager to provide immediate project management and implementation assistance to the Risk Section of the Environmental Services Department. You will join a team of talented environmental professionals who work collaboratively with plant and field operations, other environmental specialists in the department, and various corporate departments (real estate, legal, etc.) to effectively and efficiently mitigate environmental risk.
Job Description/Responsibilities
The individual filling this position will, at a minimum:
- Independently manage multiple projects simultaneously, including both small and large projects of varying complexity.
- Apply project management skills to ensure projects remain on scope, on budget, and on schedule.
- Provide project engineering, design coordination and field engineering support through all phases of environmental projects from preliminary site investigations, engineering, design, permitting, contracts, specifications, project implementation and final reporting.

- Foster collaborative relationships with fellow department co-workers, and with other company departments, consultants, contractors and regulators.
- Ensure investigation and remediation activities comply with applicable regulatory cleanup standards and performance expectations.
- Oversee field activities, which will require in-State travel and occasional out-of-town stays.
- Utilize effective oral and written communication skills to provide technical expertise to coworkers, clients, customers, government entities and the public.

This position routinely requires 45-50 hours per week, and frequently requires travel to job sites that may include overnight stays. While performing job duties, this position requires the individual be able to regularly sit; stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to stand and walk for periods of up to and beyond 8 hours in all kinds of weather; snow, mud, dirt, water, ice, etc.
Requirements/Qualification
The qualified candidate must have at least a bachelor's degree in a related field, such as environmental sciences or engineering. The candidate shall also have approximately 8-15 years of related experience, with the capability to work independently and as part of a team. The candidate must be trustworthy, proactive, self-motivated, and organized, and possess a willingness and ability to accept and adapt to change such as frequently changing priorities and a variety of job assignments. The candidate needs to have excellent communications skills and the ability to interface with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Experience in the utility industry is preferred.
The selected candidate shall have an advanced understanding of, and experience with, most of the following skills:
- Managing projects of varying complexity.
- Developing and managing work scopes, budgets, and schedules.
- Awareness of applicable Federal and State environmental regulations.
- Overseeing subsurface investigations, involving the evaluation and sampling of various media including soil, groundwater, and soil-gas.
- Knowledge of current investigation and remediation techniques.
- Understanding of hydrogeological and contaminant properties to assess the nature, extent, and migration of contamination.
- Conducting and/or overseeing environmental "due diligence", including Phase I and II ESAs and BEAs.
- Understanding and applying elements of "Due Care" compliance.
- Implementing or overseeing regulated materials surveys and compliance.
- Preparing documents including letters, memoranda, reports, etc.
- Overseeing contractors and documenting site activities.
- Proficient at typical computer programs including the MS Office Suite.
