Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of Pharmacy Manager, provide technical and administrative assistance to the Clinical Pharmacists in the daily activities of a designated pharmacy operation. Assist Pharmacist in the dispensing of prescription and non-prescription pharmaceuticals and supplies; submit and accepts routine orders for pharmacy drugs and supplies. All Nimkee staff must adhere to mandated reporting laws.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Respond to telephone and window inquiries and assist other Pharmacy Technicians.
- Receive prescriptions and medication order from patient, patient’s representative, physician, or other health care professionals.
- Enter prescriptions and medication orders into computer; check eligibility for prescription; assist with billing and rebilling.
- Assist in the obtaining from the patient, patient’s representative, physician, or other health care professionals such information as diagnosis or desired therapeutic outcome, or third party reimbursement at the discretion of the Pharmacist.
- Assess prescriptions and medications order for completeness, correctness, authenticity, legality, and reimbursement eligibility.
- Deliver medication to patient or patient’s representative.
- Provide supplemental information to educate patient or patient’s representative as indicated.
- Place orders for pharmaceuticals, durable medical equipment, devices, and supplies, including expediting of emergency orders.
- Receive goods and verify specifications on original purchase orders.
- Place pharmaceuticals, durable medical equipment, devices, and supplies in inventory under proper storage conditions.
- Remove from inventory expired, recalled, or discontinued pharmaceutical and supplies and document actions taken.
- Maintain record keeping system or return of items.
- Identify pharmaceuticals and supplies to be ordered.
- Communicate changes in product availability to Pharmacist, patient/patient’s representative, physicians, and other health care providers.
- Maintain policies and procedures to determine theft and/or drug diversion.
- Maintain a record of controlled substances received, stored, and removed from inventory.
- Utilize the Rx30 pharmacy software and Greenway Entergy EHR software to review patient data and labs and to enter notifications.
- Maintain cleanliness of counting trays and equipment.
- Maintain and files Rx hard copies and other documentation.
- Adhere to patient confidentiality and complies with clinic policies and federal regulations under the Privacy rules of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
- Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Pharmacy Technician License.
- Basic computer skills and typing experience.
- Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.
Desired Qualifications:
- One year experience working in a pharmacy.
License, Certification, or Special Requirements:
- State of Michigan Pharmacy Technician License.
- Ability to obtain HIPAA Certification, Blood Borne Pathogens Certification, BLS Certification and Safety Training within thirty days of hire.
- Native American preference shall apply to all positions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical nomenclature; various formulas, strengths, and unit measures of drugs; pharmaceutical systems of weights and measures; work techniques and pharmacy procedures.
- Skill in the operation and care of various types of pharmacy equipment such as counting and labeling machines and in the care and distribution of pharmaceuticals.
- Skill in treating patients with tact, courtesy, and respect.
- Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, patient registration, and EHR.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Physical Demands:
- Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with computer equipment.
