Department Summary
The Senior Benefits Consultant typically requires 10 or more years of related exempt work experience in the applicable field/department. The Senior Benefits Consultant performs increasingly more complex analytical or administrative tasks requiring the application of advanced knowledge, skills and creative insights in order to successfully complete the assignment. The tasks involve application of established standards and procedures, and may involve researching, recommending and implementing changes to department procedures. The work is varied and complex in nature, applying skills such as analysis, planning, design, research, budget monitoring, coordination, facilitation, and communication with customers or outside agencies. The Senior Benefits Consultant operates with substantial latitude for unreviewed action or decision making and often involves matters which may have a major bearing on the Company*s business. The Senior Benefits Consultant will often lead projects, or be designated as the Senior Management representative on corporate initiatives. The Senior Benefits Consultant may have supervisory responsibility for non-exempt and/or exempt employees or be an individual contributor. They have a high level of understanding of the processes, and have earned the respect of department peers as well as counterparts outside the department and/or company.
Job Description/Responsibilities
-General - Project-related support for benefits strategy, design, implementation, communication and ongoing administration of the Company's health care, insurance, retirement and absence management benefit plans and programs to drive Company strategy
-Lead health and wellness initiatives which promote healthy lifestyles and improve health status
-Lead and coordinate Employee Benefit communications and campaigns, including education and onboarding employee benefits communications
-Support Affordable Care Act (ACA) implementation and administration
-Manage vendors (performance, accountability, auditing, etc.)
-Research and analyze trends and other data to ensure program competitiveness
-Influence plan and vendor relationships around plan service and cost
-Develop recommendations for improvements in health care, insurance, retirement and absence management plan design and administration
-Support plan compliance requirements and financial administration of benefit plans
-Support union contract bargaining
Requirements/Qualification
-Bachelor's degree required, Master's Degree or CEBS preferred
-5 -10 years of progressive benefits experience required
-True passion for the health care and retirement benefits craft, particularly health and wellness
-Excellent verbal (including presentation) and written communication skills
-Good understanding of federal regulations and requirements for benefit plans (ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, PPA, SOX, FMLA, ADA, etc.)

The position will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidates education and experience.
Essential Functions
Advise leadership, employees and retirees on federal ACA policies, procedures and requirements; assist with proper interpretation of benefit & wellness plans, policies and guidelines. Under general supervision, may provide technical assistance in developing analytical & financial analysis on health and wellness plans. Participate in benefit surveys, assist in the conducting of benefit analyses and recommending appropriate benefit changes. Conduct a variety of research projects, prepares written reports as required, may prepare and administer employee & retiree communications and on-site educational meetings. May make presentations on a variety of topics to employees and retirees. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, managers, retirees and vendors. Provides advice and counsel to team, employees related to health care practices and procedures including matters related to the collective bargaining agreement, benefits, employee development and wellness & safety issues.
Hours and Travel
Must possess a valid driver's license. Maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance during regularly scheduled work hours at assigned worksite. Meet travel requirements of the position. Work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime.
