Our Milford, MI customer is seeking an experienced CNC Programmer (G&M Codes) / Process Engineer for a direct hire position ata salary range of $55,000-$70,000. Shift: 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
SUMMARY:
Responsible for development and implementation of Non-Traditional Machining Processes (NTM). Applies knowledge of chemistry, metallurgy, and conventional machining to development and implementation of:
- Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM)
- Abrasive Flow Machining (AFM)
- Precision Electrochemical Machining (PECM)
- Processes for the set up and production of precision machined parts.
Responsibilities:
Business Development (cost estimating):
- Establish break-down of NTM operations from Customer finished drawing.
- Establish tool lists; delineate special tool or fixturing requirements.
- Estimate cycle times for NTM operations.
- Coordinate integration with program Process Engineer and Quality Engineer.
New Product Introduction for NTM Processes:
- Coordinate the development of Control Plans with Quality Engineers
- Line up drafting activity for the development of process drawings based on Control Plans
- Read job package, job card, traveler, and blue prints for product specifications, dimensions, tolerances, batch size, and tooling instructions.
- Select, align, and secure work holding fixtures, consumables, attachments, and materials on machines
- Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speeds and feed, coolant flow, depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
- Measure workpiece for conformance to specifications using measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators and gages, non-contact inspection systems, flow measurement systems.
- May design fixtures, tooling, and experimental parts to meet special engineering needs.
- Validate production set up and facilitate first piece inspections of finished product.
- Work with and coordinate activities of outside service providers and/or equipment builders.
- Develop consumables replacement schedules, work instructions and training materials.
Problem Solving:
- Develop corrective actions for identified issues as they arise in production. Work with Quality Engineers and Manufacturing Engineers as they investigate and identify the root cause of concerns.
- Start, observe and listen to machine operation to detect malfunction such as work or damaged cutting tools and to adjust machine controls or control media as necessary.
- Oversee the chemical balance, maintenance and disposal of fluids including cutting solutions, solvents and lubricants. Conduct routine training on the proper utilization and environmental concerns of fluid maintenance and disposal.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Requires walking, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling for extended periods of time. May require lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- 6 months-1 year of relevant machining experience is required.
- Prior experience in a CNC manufacturing facility is desired. Ability to perform at Level III Machinist and at least Level I Machinist on milling, turning and grinding equipment.
- Ability to program with G & M codes is required.
- Must have experience in 1 or more of the following (and MUST be on the resume)
- Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM)
- Abrasive Flow Machining (AFM)
- Precision Electrochemical Machining (PECM)
- Ability to read and interpret basic blue prints.
- Must be able to identify and have a working knowledge of various materials such as steel, brass, etc.
- Must be comfortable working with various shop equipment such as micrometers, calipers, gages, dial indicators, hand tools, collets, etc
- Journeyman Machinist is a plus
- Must have a good understand of basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- Must be able to inspect and identify defective parts.
- Must be able to recognize machine malfunctioning, adjust machine settings, and change tools.
- Must be knowledgeable in machine controls.
