POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsible for executing the STEM Explorer Mobile Program. Leads, organizes and coordinates STEM-related educational modules for middle schools, high schools, and outreach community and off-campus events. Recruits, trains, and schedules students and volunteers to participate in the modules and scheduled events. Operates and maintains the vehicle and supporting equipment, schedules schools and events, and maintains associated paperwork. Possesses a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record. Experience in the operation of STEM-related equipment. Ability to work a non-traditional work week. This individual will be the primary driver of the vehicle and the lead instructor of the modules associated with the STEM Explorer vehicle. This will include approximately 120 K-12 school visits per year as well as community outreach events.
Administrative:
- Oversees the answering of emails and inquiries related to the STEM Explorer Program.
- Oversees the maintenance of paperwork associated with the STEM Explorer, including, but not limited to: scheduling and confirmation with teachers/schools, community events, summer camp, sign-in sheets, staffing, supplies, etc.
- Responsible for maintaining database to track schools, hours, teachers, needs, etc. for reporting purposes and for current and future use of the vehicle.
- Prepares monthly reports of activities and any materials required for grant reporting / presentations.
- Leads the hiring and managing of STEM Explorer Delta students and volunteers.
- Assists with the STEM Explorer web page updates and other social media needed for the program.
- Finds effective marketing/public relations approaches to ensure effective and efficient use of the STEM Explorer.
- Participates in Delta College Fall Learning Days.
- Coordinates the annual year-end conference for high school students to present their projects associated with the STEM Explorer Program.
- Organizes, attends and reports on meetings/conferences, as needed.
- Makes presentations, as needed.
- Works with external evaluator to assess project.
Professional Development Education for Teachers
- Works with Delta College Faculty to organize, develop, recruit for, and assists with the teachers’ professional development education courses (EDUCourses).
- Coaches teachers in effective project-based best practices.
- Co-teaches and/or models lessons for individual teachers or small groups of teachers.
- Demonstrates teaching strategies, including the workshop model that meets the individual learning styles of student.
- Supports teachers in the design of lessons and activities, specifically to support instruction related to MI State Standards.
Weekly Educational-Related Activities
- Communicates and meets with middle/high school teachers.
- Meets with Delta College STEM faculty.
- Collaborates with area STEM professionals.
- Supervises, trains, and schedules Delta’s STEM Explorer student workers.
- Attends middle/high school meetings.
- Conducts visits with middle schools and high schools.
- Drives STEM Explorer.
- Works with teachers, students, and staff.
- Operates vehicles in accordance with Delta College policies and in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Weekly Vehicle-Related Activities
- Responsible for the operation and safety of the vehicle when used at schools and special events.
- Organizes and leads the modules, as appropriate, in a timely and safe manner.
- Inspects vehicle at the beginning and end of each shift to ensure operating safety and effectiveness.
- Ensures the vehicle is stocked, maintained, cleaned, and ready for each visit.
- Assesses and reports any vehicle damage and/or inoperable vehicle equipment according to Delta’s operating procedures.
- Maintains the safety and integrity of the interior of the vehicle while the vehicle is under operator’s control.
- Assists in the management of supplies and equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
- Proficient knowledge and skills with Microsoft software suite (including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
- Possesses dynamic communication and presentation skills.
- Possesses a passion for STEM and inquiry-based education.
- Possesses the ability to flourish in a demanding, technically-oriented environment. Must be able to work well under stress.
- Possesses excellent writing, organizational, multi-tasking and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to build and maintain working relationships both inside and outside the College.
- Possesses program/project management knowledge and experience.
- Possesses familiarity with current education trends.
- Ability to safely operate the STEM Explorer vehicle.
- Possesses excellent customer service skills.
- Requires occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Work schedule is primarily days, but ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Possesses and maintains current valid Driver’s License with a safe driving record required.
- Possesses the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Ability to work with K-12 student population.
