Reporting Relationship: Reports to Lead Product Engineer/Manager– HRS Engineering
Education Required: 4 yrs College in Mechanical Engineering or related/similar discipline
Experience Preferred:5-8 years of Product Design Related Experience in Automotive Seating or related
Experience Desired: 5-8 years of Product Design Related Experience in Automotive Seating - Headrestraints/Armrests
Objective:
Lead and own product development from concept development to launch for Headrestraints and Armrests. Provide related seat / interface zone engineering direction to the extended development team to achieve flawless headrest and/or armrest system performance, appearance, and craftsmanship.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and release complete headrestraint/armrest assembly per JCI best practices and HRS Engineering design guidelines/standards.
• Document development changes and ensure all parts and drawings are released/maintained at the latest rev. level.
• Ensure that all parts are linked to templates (as appropriate) and design sheets are available and reviewed/approved by the Subject Matter Technical Expert (SMTE), for the product (s).
• Ensure that released components & complete headrestraint/armrest assembly systems comply with all customer specs and tolerances.
•Coordinate trim development with the internal HRS trim team and be the key contact to the internal/external customer.
• Provide support to the extended development team when system level issues arise that affect external components (eg, backframe, setback STO etc.) – apply root cause problem solving behaviors to determine robust solutions to complex issues, by following BEP.
• Identify and resolve all component related issues (eg, HR/AR tube manufacturing, HR foam manufacturing etc.)
• Lead and/or participate in the creation of the DFMEA and incorporate necessary actions into the design.
• Assist in costing and quoting activities by compiling/maintaining proper information (drawings, BOM, patterns, etc.).
• Attend design reviews and effectively identify and communicate conditions that will adversely affect headrest/armrest and/or overall seat performance and/or appearance/craftsmanship.
• Support program needs, by traveling to JIT plant(s) and/or foam manufacturing plant(s), as required.
•Support SMTE in implementation of best practices by deploying all new learning across assigned programs (as appropriate).
• Support program financial targets by creating and maintaining product cost sheets and tracking design to cost.
Technical Skills:
• Highly proficient in CATIA V5. Able to create surface and solid CAD models with clear data structure with experience in kinematics creation. Preferably also have experience with using the FEA tool in CATIA V5.
• Ability to create free-body diagrams and interpret load paths and predict failures/potential issues.
• Demonstrated ability to facilitate/develop and implement GD&T on drawings; Ability to conduct tolerance stack to conform compliance/identify issues.
• Ability to conduct statistical analysis of data (performance/supplier dimensional data) and interpret data to understand trends.
• Ability to review FEA (as appropriate), interpret results and propose countermeasures.
• Ability to plan and prioritize workload effectively – prepare program tactical timing plans and manage internal/external workload accordingly..
• Capacity to manage development of multiple components and/or multiple programs.
• Demonstrated usage of effective problem-solving methods (eg, Basic Eng. Process (BEP), 6-sigma, Kepner-Tregoe, etc).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing and whiteboard skills.
• Basic computer skills (Windows, MS Office, etc.) and ability to learn/apply JCI-specific softwares (eg, EPIC, StarTECH etc.)
Interpersonal Skills:
• Demonstrate ownership of the product.
• Possess ability to lead in a team environment per JCI Leader Expectations Model
• Demonstrated delegation and team leadership skills.
• Ability to effectively train and develop other employees as appropriate.
• Ability to develop and maintain positive and productive professional relationships with Internal (ex: BU Eng, Mfg., etc.) and External (OEM) customers.
• Ability to work effectively across cultures, in a global environment.
