Die Setters are primarily responsible for performing job set ups and tear downs, maintenance and verification of production and spare tooling, implementing continuous improvement initiatives, and verification of product quality for the processes and products in their assigned area. Die Setters will typically be assigned to work on more than one press/product each shift and are required to balance the needs of each machine according to the needs of the area as defined by the Supervisor/BU Manager.
Die Setters should have demonstrable proficiency with some toolroom equipment (lathes, mills, surface grinders, etc.), and are expected to be able to read and understand blueprints, and use all quality measurement tools and equipment (calipers, micrometers, profilometers, optical comparators, etc.) with proficiency.
A skilled Die Setter should be able to offer suggestions for and/or contribute to troubleshooting and problem solving in a production environment. Die Setters should have a Continuous Improvement mindset with an ability to contribute meaningfully in making process, tooling, and equipment enhancements that will improve production efficiency and product quality.
At Metal Flow Die Setters are encouraged to assist in the development of entry level team members and work constructively with others in various areas of the organization to achieve common goals. Die Setters are also encouraged to grow their own skills by seeking educational experiences and taking advantage of various training opportunities both internally and externally. Die Setters who are interested in advancing to a Journeyman Toolmaker level are encouraged to apply for acceptance into Metal Flow’s Department of Labor registered Apprenticeship Program where they can take advantage of On-The-Job Training Opportunities and Off-Site Educational Curriculum.
