Job Description
Job Title: Assistant Cook
SUMMARY: Under general direction of the dietary supervisor/head cool, primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the proper function and food preparation of the dietary y department and assume the primary responsibilities of the head cook during his/her absence.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIEIS include the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
- Assisting with the purchase of food and supplies and the maintaining of accurate inventory records and expenditure record as directed by the dietary supervisor (and in the absence of the dietary supervisor, as directed.)
- Assist with the orientation and training of new personnel.
- Responsible for the preparing of meals.
- May act as a dietary aid when the head cook is on duty and as needed.
- Responsible for the monitoring of resident meal intake and resident dietary preference.
- Responsible for documentation of attended meals as required.
- Responsible for maintaining sanitary conditions in work areas, refuse depots, all storage areas and in the preparation of meals and the cleaning and sterilization of cooking and eating utensils.
- Responsible for assisting with the development of menus and in maintain a record of menus (for the duration of one year.)
- Responsible for assisting with maintaining recipe files.
- Responsible for overseeing the proper use of all dietary equipment.
- Notifies manager of emergency situations.
- Completes incident reports as necessary
- Responsible for indentifying that all residents have had their meal served or delivered to them.
- Responsible for checking on or establishing whereabouts of (or assigning this duty) residents who are not present at mealtime.
- Knows the locations of emergency phone numbers, including manager, assistant manager, maintenance supervisor, police, fire, de4partment and EMS, etc.
- Notes areas or articles in need of repair and reports to maintenance. Completing maintenance request forms as necessary.
- Notes the well being or changers of residents on a daily basis and reports any changes or incidences to management.
- Responsible (or assigns responsibility) for the building during the hours between office staff and night companion shifts (in absence of the head cook).
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.
