JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to: Director of Quality
Supervisory Responsibility: None
PRIMARY PURPOSE
The primary purpose of this position is to assist the company in meeting business, production and quality goals and targets. This is accomplished by working within the quality system on Quality Planning and Execution projects. This also includes working on new projects and continuous improvement initiatives on current projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Quality Planning related to assigned project
- Functions as a liaison between US based customers, Weber Automotive and its European colleagues for the purposes of; prototype development, support, and APQP for current and future production products in Germany
- Know and understand timing of assigned projects and timing to order machines and tooling for the Start of Production (SOP)
- Know and understand the full customer drawing and all the associated specifications – initial and subsequent commercial agreements
- Know and understand how the part will be measured, assembled and used by the customer
- Help others on the project understand the customer's needs
- Knowledge and understanding of the customers’ requirements, specification and needs
- Know and fully understand the process by which the part will be provided to the customer
- Know how part is machined, inspected and the control of the process itself
- Support engineering in the development of the PFMEA
- Match inspection system capacity with capacity and capability of machines and tooling producing parts
- Budget and select the necessary inspection equipment, ensure it is ordered, delivered and installed on time
- APQP Documentation - Writing the control plan: Pre-launch, Safe Launch and Production
- Write work instructions for inspectors and provide visual aids as required
- Train inspectors and production personnel in part inspection during program start
- Support Engineering with the necessary information to launch a process that produces zero process defects
- Ensure production has the required information and support to maintain the process within the parameters designed by engineering to maintain zero process defect status
- Approve supplier PPAPs and work with suppliers to improve deficiencies that affect our products or processes
- Coordinate pre-launch inspection activities and analysis of the resultant data
- Coordinate and submit PPAP documents
- Communication with the Customer's Supplier Quality Contacts
- Monitor customer satisfaction Pre and Post Launch
- Work with the customer to resolve any quality concerns
- Work with Engineering on Engineering Change Activities to ensure zero defect status
- Work with Engineering and Production on continuous improvement activities
- Adhere to work regulations, accident prevention regulations, environmental regulations and OSHA/MIOSHA laws
- Promotion of employee’s welfare

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Bachelor Degree preferred or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5 to 7 years of experience as a Quality Engineer
- MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project; Outlook and MS Access is a plus
- Statistical Process Control
- Basics in CMM technology
- Sound knowledge in measuring techniques
- Strong attention to detail
- Good problem-solving abilities

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- ASQ Certification preferred
QUALITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
- Must become aware and understand Weber’s Business System, including Quality and Environmental Policies
- Must have a basic understanding of the Quality System with respect to impact of the job
- Must have knowledge of environmental aspects of their job
- Employee must be capable of carrying out environmental responsibilities within their work area
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, hear, and talk and use hands and fingers
- Rarely required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- Must be able to lift, bend, and twist without limitations, and lift 50 pounds unassisted
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Long hours as required
- Employees must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when on the production floor. This includes ANSI Z89 safety glasses, and hearing protection. It also includes steel toe footwear if walking outside the marked safety area

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
- Climate controlled work area
- The noise level in the office work environment is usually low; regularly required to be in the office
- The noise level in the production environment is loud; frequently required to be on the production floor
- Exposed to slippery floors when fluids spill or leak onto the production floor
- Exposed to mechanical parts, fumes and airborne particles when on the production floor
