JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Programs’ overall responsibility is to position Living Arts as a definitive and positively renowned resource for professional artists who work effectively with children, youth, schools and community by ensuring optimal delivery of youth education, youth development, and community arts programs. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Programs will supervise the development, design and delivery of program initiatives and on-going services, assuring that the goals and objectives of Living Arts are well served. Duties include, but are not limited to, planning, organizing, staffing, evaluating, leading, promoting and controlling program activities. The Director of Programs is expected to use independent discretion and judgment in developing and executing Living Arts programming while providing strategic leadership to staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES & FUNCTIONS
Program Delivery Duties
Maintain and administer current programs
- Develop, strengthen, and maintain partnerships and relationships with key school and community program partners
- Ensure that programs are in accordance with the mission and goals of the organization
- Represent Living Arts programs to the community, institutional funders, and individual donors, attending all program-related community meetings, administrative collaborations, and marketing and development events.
- Contribute strategies and implementation support for Living Arts program and institutional marketing plans
Program Development Duties
Design, implement, and deliver new programs
- Develop and implement short-, medium and long-term goals and objectives to achieve the successful outcome of the programs
- Craft links between artist workforce development and work opportunities in schools and community, creating and overseeing comprehensive artist professional development opportunities
- Keep informed of and strategically implement data, methods and best practices regarding arts-infused education (arts integration), youth development through the arts, and community-based arts programming
- Communicate with program participants and other stakeholders to solicit input to improve programs and gain community support for programs
- Explore new markets and assess areas of need for target populations
- Plan the delivery of the overall program and its activities in accordance with the mission and the goals of the organization
- Field and respond to program inquiries and opportunities to develop new partnerships
Program Administrative Duties
Manage the administrative components of all program services
- Effectively supervise program staff managers, trainers, teachers and other specialists to deliver on Living Arts’ mission
- Monitor partner contract negotiations
- Ensure program grant and contract compliance
- Develop funding proposals for the program and complete narrative program grant reports to ensure the continuous delivery of services
Program Evaluation Duties
Design and oversee assessments of participant growth and learning, and program quality evaluation
- Monitor the program activities against performance benchmarks on a regular basis
- Develop program evaluation framework with educational and community partners and staff to assess student learning and quantify program strengths and aspects to be improved
- Ensure the highest level of artist performance, student achievement, and parent and teacher engagement is obtained through identifying and meeting quality metrics and benchmarks
- Design and supervise systems for program data collection management, including data from school partners, complying with all laws and regulations
- Conduct annual evaluations according to the program evaluation framework, overseeing use of all evaluation tools and schedules and supervising outside evaluators
- Supervise the creation and use of student pre- and post-assessments, student, parent and teacher surveys, and other tools for evaluation
- Assist with video, photo, and written program documentation
- Generate metrics of program for executive director, partners, donors and funders
Program Budget Duties
Oversee program budgets and expenditures
1.With program managers, develop annual program budgets and operating plan for existing and new programs
2.Monitor and approve all budgeted program expenditures, ensuring that all programs operate within the approved budget
Program Staffing Duties
Recruit, supervise, and oversee program staff
- Design and direct effective program manager, teaching artist and trainer recruitment and hiring strategies
- Ensure all staff members, including teaching artists, receive orientation and training in accordance with organizational standards of quality
- Establish and implement a performance management process for all program staff
- Supervise and evaluate program managers and specialists
- Provide ongoing guidance, coaching and feedback to program staff
- Implement the human resources policies, procedures and practices of the organization, ensuring personnel files for program staff are properly maintained and kept confidential
