Desktop Engineer

Our engineering team is highly technical and diversified, serving in a variety of markets including automotive, office furniture, alternative energy, and medical. Our capabilities span from napkin through launch, providing numerous opportunities for us to partner with clients in product and process development, as well as in Talent identification and attraction.
We are currently partnering with a West Michigan customer in their search for a desktop engineer.
The Desktop Engineer is responsible for improving the productivity, security, and efficiency of the client desktops. This includes implementing operational improvements for the Client Services Team and ensuring appropriate security measures are maintained to protect corporate information. The Desktop Engineer is also responsible for the effective administration and utilization of Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager and Service Manager, including daily maintenance and overall effective use of the systems, Print Server administration, and other server administration duties to support desktop needs. The Desktop Engineer shares in the day to day actives of the Client Services Team including working on help desk tickets, maintaining project task accuracy, and collaborating with the teams to solve problems.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Implements companywide desktop policy. Creates and maintains standards relating to hardware and software. Also identifies exceptions and variations to desktop policy.
- Maintains and tracks all software licensing. Tracks all company software licenses and IT contracts, and enforces the corporate policies on software licensing.
- Provide user support. Process problems/requests/questions submitted to the Helpdesk via email, phone, and walkup base on the defined service levels.
- Resolve software issues including installation and configuration on PC. Using reporting tools, creates install procedures for standard software and also maps out upgrade paths for standard software used.
- Maintains documentation for all PC systems. Documents entire systems installation processes including operating systems and application software. Maintains current and previous status(‘s) of all computer assets, including location, usage, and historical changes.
- Interact with user community to adjust procedures. Gathers feedback from users and adjusts procedures appropriately according to user needs.
- Participates as a member of the company’s IT Services Team. Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies. Coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the company’s IT Services Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas of lack of cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues effecting cohesiveness. Actively look for ways, and reinforce actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.

Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in computer science or related field of study.
- 3-5 years of desktop administration experience required.
- Knowledgeable in administration of: Windows Servers, Windows Group Policy, Windows Desktops, Microsoft Office, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager, and Trend Micro Anti-Virus. Experience with asset tracking, network printer configurations and IT purchasing.
- Understands the company’s values and both long- and short-term corporate objectives. Understands how this position’s role relates to the above. Understands the impact of individual actions on the company’s business systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
