Job Summary
Performs a variety of engineering work including such areas as design, testing, analysis, manufacturing support and customer support.
Duties and Requirements of the Job
- Interface with internal departments and external customers to assure customer satisfaction.
- Will be responsible for the design, release and testing of fuel systems and components.
- Work directly with specific customers on new product development, current product support, and problem solving.
- Apply detailed project management skills to programs and assignments.
- Interface with WEM suppliers on component development.
- Resolve technical issues related to mechanical/electrical engineering or material engineering of the product.
- Provide technical reports and other documentation as required.
- Gathers, coordinates and applies engineering data using established and appropriate or defined engineering principles and procedures.
- Applies a detailed and thorough approach to all analysis and understands the science behind decisions and conclusions.
- Must be able to apply appropriate engineering skills to the design and development of components and assemblies that use methods such as injection molding, diecasting, stamping, etc.
- Works on assignment involving specific parts or components to improve performance and efficiencies, reduce cost and simplify design.
- Consult with supervisor and/or mentors on more difficult aspects of assignments.
- Perform well in a team environment.
- Must be a self-starter with experience in managing multiple tasks and priorities.
- Performs such individual assignments as supervisors and superiors may direct; ensures adequate and continuous controls are exercised over all assigned activities affecting quality; establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, the Company and the community; and maintains the professional competence, knowledge and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
Required Training, Knowledge and Experience
- In depth knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and is disciplined in their application.
- BSME, BSMET or equivalent.
- Typically has completed three or more years of on-the-job experience.
- High degree of hands-on mechanical ability.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Engine and fuel systems knowledge and experience a plus.
- Familiar with DFMEA and GD&T.
Essential Functions
- Regular and predictable attendance.
- Performs hands-on engineering work such as carburetor calibration and engine testing.
- As required by the business, works with various products, equipment and disciplines to increase production, quality, efficiency, volume and/or environmental suitability.
- Gathers, coordinates and applies basic engineering data using established and appropriate or defined engineering principles and procedures.
- Designs, coordinates and applies engineering concepts in the development of fuel systems.
- Develops test methods and techniques for evaluation of new ideas and concepts.
Physical Requirements
- Occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds and frequently carries up to 30 pounds.
- Maneuvers in, around, under, and about factory and/or laboratory equipment on a regular and continuous basis.
- Some of work time is spent standing, walking, lifting, and bending.
- Works at telephone answering equipment, design equipment, and at a PC.
- Works within a components manufacturing, office, and laboratory setting and is exposed to heat, cold, wet, and fumes/chemicals.
- Regularly travels to plant and customer sites.
