Under direct supervision by department leadership, performs diagnostic clinical and clinical contract research testing. Interacts with customers, providing a high level of customer service to resolve customer concerns about sample acceptability and results. Supports preparation of laboratory reagents and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment. Supports the training of junior and peer staff members. Performs higher level interpretation of testing results and test panels.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Understands and performs to all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements.
Performs daily diagnostic testing, as scheduled.
Supports sample evaluation and processing, as needed.
Performs on call, weekend, and holiday testing, as scheduled.
Performs reagent preparation, as scheduled.
Operates, troubleshoots, and performs routine maintenance and calibration on equipment.
Supports customer inquiries via phone and lab information system (LIS).
Supports the maintenance of reagent and supply inventory.
Maintains sample integrity and ensure proper identification of all specimens.
Maintains organization of departmental records, as needed.
Performs higher level review and release of results.
Performs interpretation of test panel results.
Trains staff on job specific tasks.
May perform competency assessment of staff.
May participate in validation of new test offerings or new equipment.
May assist in educating fellows, residents, students, and visitors to the laboratory.
Prepares and manages the receipt of proficiency samples in the laboratory.
May provide support for transfusion product selection, as applicable.
Reviews daily work for accuracy, and recognizes and investigates the reason for potential discrepancies and unexpected results, resolving where appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, chemistry, molecular biology, immunology, clinical laboratory science, or related field, or MLT (Medical Laboratory Technician) certification required.
Experience
Mastery of Associate Technologist duties, responsibilities, and behaviors.
Skills and Knowledge
Ability to read and interpret documents such as Standard Operating Procedures, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and other department manuals.
Must have basic mathematical aptitude.
Ability to apply judgment to written or oral instructions.
Ability to organize work to provide productive work flow.
Flexibility to work independently and with a team.
Has a strong attention to detail.
Must have good communication skills, including the ability to provide constructive criticism to peers.
Possesses legible hand writing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical demands: Daily tasks include a mixture of standing, sitting, and walking. Hand-eye coordination with significant manual dexterity and frequent repetitive hand motions. Reaching above the head and lifting up to 50-pound items occurs occasionally. Visual and hearing acuity to perform essential responsibilities. Looking at computer screens or small items is common.
Mental demands: Requires ability to maintain a routine of intense concentration for long periods, as well as excellent cognitive, analytical, and memory ability.
Environmental hazards: Work with biohazardous material is completed in a laboratory environment wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and following internal policies, training, and OSHA standards. Moderate level of noise is present in the laboratory.
