General Summary
The Quality Control Specialist ensures that the quality of services and materials procured by Supply Chain meet Consumers Energy (CMS) standards and expectations. They maintain and update quality control processes and procedures and support implementation of the supplier quality framework. The Specialist produces reports for Supply Chain and Business Partners on the performance of supplier quality programs. The Specialist provides day--to-day support, responds to questions, solves problems and aligns on the execution of defined standards. This is accomplished through collaboration with Supply Chain, Engineering, Suppliers, and Business Partners to manage non-conformances, obtain buy-in and prioritize opportunities for improvements. **The Quality Control Specialist will be responsible for resolving non-conformances, obtaining disposition for suspect materials and ensuring containment and outcome of suspect and defective materials. ** Responsible for managing the execution of a targeted inspection process that will be based on risk and history to ensure zero defects.**Works closely with the Performance & Development function in Supply Chain to support the translation of CMS objectives into relevant metrics and fosters collaborative relationships with all internal and external customers/stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities
Quality Control Administration:
Support QC's strategic direction and contribute towards goals and focus areas for the Supplier Quality and Performance (SQP) group.
Administer the CMS QC framework including targeted inspection and non-conformance management to ensure the materials being procured and delivered to business partner sites have appropriate quality requirements and standards.
Execute basic to moderate measurement and inspection of incoming product, equipment, and completion of services.
Implement and manage appropriate 'controlled shipping' processes for troubled suppliers to include appropriate containment of all suspect material, first piece verification, and setting and managing breakpoints including necessary collaboration with Business Partners and Suppliers.
Metrics and Reporting:
Develop and prepare regular QC metrics, reports and dashboards and apply to visual management and operating reviews.
Use SQP guidelines, appropriate metrics, and goals to track performance of key suppliers in collaboration with SQP department.
Work with QC Manager to establish reporting formats and frequencies to provide necessary transparency and stakeholders informed of supplier performance status and risks.
Lead communication efforts with Business Partners to explain and demonstrate the value of QC
SQP Strategy & Processes:
Support the development, communication, maintenance, revision and retirement (as needed) of SC policies, processes, procedures and guidelines to implement supplier quality strategic objectives.
Apply ISO standards to audit and QC processes as appropriate. Support the QC Manager in efforts to identify and implement leading practices for QC.
Continuous Improvement:
Implement the framework, metrics, and goals for continuous improvement.
Stay current with industry innovations and leading practices throughout the organization to achieve process excellence.
Drive waste reduction and continuous improvement for SQP processes and support waste reduction and continuous improvement of Business Partner processes to meet annual cost saving utilizing lean methodologies.
Communicate initiatives and improvements to Business Partners as appropriate.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Must have an excellent understanding of QC objectives, processes, and tools
Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills
Ability to execute elements of Lean / CE Way methodology
Proficient with the MS Office suite
Time-management skills and ability to self-direct and prioritize
Ability to lead multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously
Excellent communication skills (oral and written) with an ability to communicate with suppliers and business unit partners

Ability to analyze and interpret moderate Engineering drawing and standards
Ability to travel regularly within the CMS footprint
Ability to utilize moderately complex measurement devices to provide quick and accurate material and service status.
Requirements/Qualifications
Prefer Bachelor's, in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Quality or Supply Chain Management
