Job Summary:
The Relationship Manager is responsible for the sales, service and retention of a Commercial Banking portfolio of highly profitable and complex deposit and credit based commercial customers. This position is responsible for new business development, portfolio management, credit quality and overall relationship management of an assigned portfolio of commercial customers. They typically handle 15-20 relationships at an average loan size of $10mm, not to exceed a portfolio of $150mm. This position requires a high level of independence to manage and develop customer accounts that meet the Bank’s established lending requirements and maximize profitability while minimizing risk.
Job Responsibilities:
- Act as a primary contact for new business deveopment which focuses on the acquistion of highly complex and highly profitable commercial customers. Cross-sell the bank’s commercial products and services to existing customers. Participate in joint calls with business partners to develop customer relationships and support specific product sales across business lines.
- Identify, evaluate, structure and document commercial credit transactions to ensure masimum probitability with reasonable risk. Monitor credit quality within assigned portfolios and take action as appropriate. Work closely with the Credit Risk Mgmt division concerning relationships. Build and Develop customer relationships to position us as the bank of choice.
- Work with internal and external auditors and corporate compliance to ensure conformity with bank policies and procedures and federal and state regulations.
- Represent the bank in civic & community functions to further enhance the bank’s visibility while increasing business development.
- Act as mentor to credit analysts, portfolio managers, or less experienced relationship managers.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Complete all required compliance training. Maintain knowledge of and adhere to Flagstar's internal compliance policies and procedures. Take responsibility to keep up to date with changing regulations and policies.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Area of study preferred in Finance or Accounting.
- 6 years of job-related experience, 7-10 years, preferred.

- Ability to be a self-starter, and work independently to achieve goals
- Anticipate needs of Commercial team, acting proactively in problem resolution

- Ability to handle confidential information with tact and discretion
- Must be proficient in MS Office software and able to quickly master the Bank’s technology and systems
