Our St Clair Shores, MI customer is seeking an experienced 1st shift Tool Maker/Machinist (must be able to move to 2nd shift if a 2nd shift is started) for a direct hire position at an hourly wage of $22.00. Currently, most skilled positions are working overtime, averaging 45-55 total hours per week, so must be available for overtime.
Shift Times:
- 1st Shift 6am to 2pm with 20 minute paid lunch break
- 2nd Shift 2pm to 10pm with 20 minute paid lunch break ---- Plus $.50 per hour shift premium
- 3rd shift 10pm to 6am with 20 minute paid lunch break ---- Plus $.65 per hour shift premium
Purpose:
Responsible for designing and building fixtures, tooling and machines and diagnosing tool failures to support production activities.
Responsibilities:
- Build and fabricate, and/or paint machine parts and details using tool room equipment, hand tools, blueprints and/or welding equipment
- Design machines to be used in a production capacity
- Take measurements using hand tools such as gages and micrometers to verify part dimensions
- Set-up tool room equipment and/or sharpen tools for use in fabricating machine components
- Create blueprints for outside vendors and for internal documentation purposes
- Diagnose and troubleshoot machinery and equipment; make needed repairs
- Communicate with co-workers and others to carry out job duties
- Travel, as required, to include out of the country
- Various other duties as required by the department.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED is required plus formal training leading to Journeyman status as a Millwright, Machinist or Tool Maker and/or equivalent on the job experience
- Experience: 5-7 years.
- Licensure: Valid Driver’s License, and Journeyman Status or accredited certificate is required. Must have valid Passport for out of country travel. Typically traveling 1-2x p/year at 1 week per trip staying in Brownsville, Texas; daily someone from their Matamoros, Mexico plant picks them up and takes them to the plant. No issues traveling to this part of Mexico.
- Strong mechanical ability and equipment troubleshooting skills
- Knowledge of ISO/TS 16949
- Ability to operate computers; manual and electronic micrometers, calipers, gages; grease guns; hardness testers; grinding machines; manual mills/lathes; punch presses; drill presses; shadowgraph optical comparators; cranes & hoists
- Knowledge of cutting, turning, milling, grinding, hardness testing, tool steel composition, time studies, electric & TIG welding, assembly techniques and blueprint reading
- Knowledge of calculating speeds & feeds; performing machine offsets; machine set-up; tool and/or tooling selection; tool sharpening; know how to assemble equipment; fixture building and heat treating
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills
- Must have good communication skills to interact with all levels of employees with the ability to work effectively with people
- Computer skills and math skills sufficient to perform department-related tasks are required.
- Safety glasses, hearing protection and slip resistant, solid upper, leather shoes (most tennis shoes are acceptable) are required. Will be working in a manufacturing environment. Job requires very frequent visual effort and concentration, and the ability to move throughout the plant, including second-story areas. Must be able to identify colors for purposes of executing machine and equipment repairs. The ability to lift 40 lbs is required.
