- Customer Relationships: Interface as required to develop strong relationships with existing customers to ensure repeat business. To successfully accomplish this objective, customers must perceive Energetx Composites as highly competent with a high level of confidence. In addition, the Quality Assurance Manager must become familiar with each customer’s needs, both specified and not specified (unwritten expectations), to ensure that customer relationships are optimized for both customer and company. The Quality Assurance Manager will interface frequently with the Project Manager and Customer Services to make sure on time delivery is met, quality problems are addressed, and continual improvement strategies are in place and working.
- Management by Metrics: The Quality Assurance Manager must provide top-down leadership within the Quality Team to instill a more rigorous approach to management using metrics throughout the department and operation. This will include mentoring the staff on adopting a rigorous approach to achieve continual improvement in the following areas:
- Scrap and rework (joint with Director of Operations)
- Improve on-time delivery (joint with Director of Operations)
- MRB value and accumulative days
- Inspection reject tags and accumulative days
- Quality performance metrics for internal and external quality ratings, scrap, and nonconformance.
- Labor costs (including overtime and direct/indirect labor) and department overhead spending accounts.
- Process Improvement: Lead process improvements for greater efficiency, speed of delivery, and cost savings. This will include:
- Implementing new quality procedures and process improvements to better accommodate the unique requirements of new products
- Increasing test and inspection productivity of the legacy product lines
- Continuously look for ways to automate and the quality system and implement those enhancements
- Assist in the development and implementation of training programs as applicable for continuous improvement or new processes.
- Organizational Development: Develop the quality organization to its full potential and keep personnel motivated and productive. The Quality Assurance Manager must also assess the organization and conduct succession planning in addition to the following:
- Ensure that the team is properly staffed with qualified, motivated individuals who can support the company’s needs for timely completion of quality work, within budget.
- Strengthen the leadership skills of the quality staff and their ability to understand and work with each other.
- Improve Team Management: Improve policies and procedures to create a more structured accountability amongst the team. Conduct weekly staff meetings to ensure they are successfully monitoring their group’s performance using established metrics. Lead team to make beneficial quality engineering, test and inspection decisions based on profitability, continual improvement, and customer satisfaction. Improve the present level of employee health and safety.
- Lean Manufacturing: Assist manufacturing and management team in driving lean implementation throughout the quality area, offices, and entire factory using Lean manufacturing initiatives including visual management tools, single-piece flow (conversion from batch and queue), Kanbans, Pull Systems, and various standardized processes.
Job Requirements
The ideal candidate will have the following education, work history, knowledge and skills.
Education: BA or BS degree in Engineering, TQM or Quality Management recommended, but not required if based upon related experiences. Third party training for Internal Quality Auditor for ISO9001 or AS9100 is desirable. Minimum 5 years as quality manager or senior level quality engineer related to aerospace and composites.
