MAIN PURPOSE: The Supervisor, Mine Health & Safety is responsible for supporting Mine site leadership with developing and sustaining a safe, secure and healthful workplace for all employees and contractors. The Supervisor, Mine Health & Safety will support the H&S, mining, milling and geology teams through development, start-up and subsequent operation of the Eagle Mine and Humboldt Mill near Marquette, Michigan. Eagle is a near surface high grade nickel copper deposit that will be mined underground by a contractor using long-hole stopping and with ramp access. The mine which is currently under development is located in a pristine forest area 63 miles from the brownfield Humboldt mill where the new concentrator will be built. Ore will be mined at the rate of approximately 2,000 tonnes per day and trucked from the mine using a contract trucking service. The facility is expected to produce 23,000 tons nickel and 20,000 tons of copper metal annually with concentrates shipped to customers by rail.
The facilities are currently under construction and are to be completed during Q3 2014. Commissioning and ramp up will follow and full production is to be achieved at the beginning of the Q1 2015. Approximately $400 million of initial capital remains to be spent. As of now the mine is approximately 80% complete while the concentrator construction is at 15%.
